Year only dates can be entered into spreadsheets
00:02.5
00:07.3
without encountering any problems, as shown for piece number 52.
00:08.6
00:12.7
However, when I try to enter a month/year date,
00:12.8
00:18.4
spreadsheet software such as Excel converts the date to a text format.
00:18.5
00:23.7
This can be seen here when I enter the First date and Last dates
00:23.8
00:25.8
for piece number 53.
00:26.7
00:29.8
To prevent this automatic reformatting,
00:29.9
00:34.7
the format of the cells needs to be amended before entering the data.
00:34.8
00:39.6
There are many ways to do this; here are two ways in Excel.
00:39.7
00:41.1
Select the cell
00:41.2
00:45.5
and choose the Number format drop down list in the Home ribbon,
00:45.6
00:47.2
and select Text.
00:52.9
00:58.1
Select the cell and right click the mouse in that cell.
00:58.2
01:03.0
Select Format cells and on the Number tab, select Text, then select OK.
01:09.7
01:14.3
You can see the format of the date is now retained.
01:14.4
01:19.2
If you are using another spreadsheet software, the method will be similar.
