Mute Records 1. Clip video - 'Stardust' APTN - London, UK. 7th March 2003. 2. SOT MARTIN GORE (English) on singing: "I have always been a singer ever since I was a kid. I love to sing and it's not something that is completely new to me because I always sing a couple of songs on every Depeche Mode record or three or four songs when we play live. So it's a natural thing." Mute Records 3. Clip video - 'Stardust' APTN London, 7th March 2003 4. SOT MARTIN GORE (English) on covering David Essex song 'Stardust': "Although he was a teen idol I think he was a little bit cooler than that back then. He wrote his own songs which a lot of them didn't and Stardust and Rock On for me where the two great ones and Rock On has been done a few too many times and Stardust seemed like a really good choice." Mute Records 5. Clip video - 'Stardust' APTN London, 7th March 2003 6. SOT MARTIN GORE (English) on making album of covers: "The process of the album was a lot longer than I thought it would because I thought once I chose the songs it would be a question of recording them and it wouldn't be that difficult. Obviously I have a lot of respect for the songs and at the same time you want to take them off in different directions and there are certain limits. You have to try and work out what the important qualities were about the original that you wanted to carry in to the new approach. That takes a lot of trial and error, a lot of experimentation until you hit on a direction that you feel works." Mute Records 7. Clip video - 'Stardust' APTN London, 7th March 2003 8. SOT MARTIN GORE (English) on 'Stardust' video: "I think it's really about the loneliness of the rock star. There are a lot of shots of me. The song is very slow and so the video is very slow moving and it's just me in a hotel room looking out windows eating an apple, sitting in a car." Mute Records 9. Clip video - 'Dream On,' Depeche Mode APTN London, 7th March 2003 10. SOT MARTIN GORE (English) on future of Depeche Mode: "I think that there are unknown factors going on now, Dave has never made a solo record before. We have left it that we will be talking at the end of the year once these projects are out of our systems and we will work on some kind of time plan on when to get back in the studio and when we would like to get an album released." Mute Records 11. Clip video - 'Stardust' Martin Gore APTN London, 7th March 2003 12. SOT MARTIN GORE on plans to tour solo album: "I'm planning to do just a few dates, keep it small. I don't like the idea of going out on a huge tour with it. It doesn't seem right. I think the whole album is intimate and I can't imagine having a big production around it. I think it should be something personal and intimate." Mute Records 13. Clip video - 'Stardust' Martin Gore 14 YEARS ON, FOLLOW UP SOLO ALBUM FROM DEPECHE MODE STAR Depeche Mode songwriter MARTIN L. GORE releases his second ever solo album on 28th April - the covers album 'Counterfeit 2'. The release comes hot on the heels of the first single from the album to hit shops - 'Stardust' came out on 14th April. The song was originally a hit for David Essex. Like the first in the series, the 1989 EP 'Counterfeit', 'Counterfeit 2' is a diverse collection. Gore reworks tracks made famous by the likes of Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Nick Cave And The Bad Seeds, Kurt Weill, John Lennon and Brian Eno. The tracks were recorded at his home studio, and show the side of the star that is a fan - the songs have all touched him in some way over the years. The composer and keyboard player was one of the founding members of eighties synth rockers Depeche Mode and has written almost every song in their back catalogue. The group are behind electro-pop classics like 'Just Can't Get Enough,' 'Everything Counts,' 'People are People' and 'Personal Jesus.' The band had a worldwide hit with their 2001 album 'Exciter.' Since touring the new material, singer David Gahan has been concentrating on his own solo project - the album 'Paper Monsters,' due out in June 2003. And with the pressure to channel his creative energy into the band lifted for a while, Gore turned to his own private project. Fans can rest assured the individual albums do not mean the end of Depeche Mode - Gore explains the band members plan to get together at the end of the year, to work out when they can head back into the studio. In the meantime, Gore began a short European tour of 'Counterfeit 2' on Tuesday (22APR03). He will play Stockholm, Cologne, Hamburg, Paris, Milan and London.
