Description:
What are shackles when my mind is set? Please see the comments for notes regarding the Monkey King, the self-proclaimed “The Great Sage, Heaven’s Equal” (hence the title of the song), and the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West,” which describes his journey. (The notes were too long for the description box!) As my familiarity with Buddhist philosophies and the novel is limited, the translations and notes I provide here by no means the most accurate interpretation. ◼︎ Footage from the movie Wukong 悟空傳 and www.pexels.com ━━━━━⊱༻ 🛎 ༺⊰━━━━━ »» IG: https://instagram.com/xiaxueran/ »» FB: https://facebook.com/xiaxueran/ Please like, comment, and share! [DIALOG] “Destroy your Mount Huaguo.” “Destroy your immortal heart.” They say this is fate. [SONG] The sun and the moon are repeating their performances. Who is commanding Qitian? Ordering Qitian to renounce all grievances? Love and hate converge into a line. There’s no escaping the hand of fate. From between its fingers, the sky is high and far. Raising a question concerning life, death, and karma: Why was I born? Why bring me to the world but leave me in confusion? A voice says: become enlightened. Is it that, upon enlightenment, the world will be free from evils? Who will come tell me? I see the sandstorm turn the sun dim yellow. Above the Heavenly Palace, The moon is no different from that on Mount Huaguo. Following that battle, fame and glory, but also ambush from every direction. You win unjustly. I’m up against hidden enemies. In silence, countless sunrises and sunsets have slipped by. The conclusion and the truth... One step after another, I still can’t see the path ahead. In my dreams, the aroma of peach blossoms calls. An indomitable will is still no match against collusion and hypocrisy. In black and white, the truth, pending daybreak. Will I be able to, by my own hand, pen the truth? The Trident Glaive has been unsheathed. The Dragon and the Phoenix collapse. The Qilin falls. The jade stairs have been pulverized. The Golden Cudgel swings. There’s no looking back. In the eons to come, all that remains will be this Cudgel. Why did victory end in desolation? In my dreams, the wind murmurs. I can say “Thank you for your concession” but I’ll never admit defeat. I trampled the Southern Heavenly Gates, then turned to the mountains and seas. I set out to conquer all, out to the ends of the world. Who is this youth who was so audacious? Who can give me something to believe in? Spring continues, and the moon shines bright. I had the intent of lingering here, But alas the winds are early and all is ill-timed; Dawn has just broken. Work on the Golden Fillet is still not complete, So I can still manage to smile. Love, hate, sorrows—cast into a dense fog. Hundreds of thousands of thunderclaps shake heaven and earth, But they cannot imprison me. Millions of heavenly soldiers part and converge upon me, But don’t think for a moment that I will surrender. This is not something you can decide, the outcome of this battle. With a swing of my cudgel, the Heavenly Palace topples. What is this predetermined destiny? I say my fate heeds my will. I want this mountain to not block my path. I want the seas to not obstruct my way home. I want heaven and earth to make way for me. With the point of my cudgel, the mountains collapse and the ground cracks. Enlightenment (holding up a flower and smiling). The clouds of sunset fill the sky. I’ve cried, laughed, loved, and hated. I’ve been foolish and I’ve been livid. What is there that I can’t let go? I want these absurd rules to, Like a cruel farce, come to an end. Between heaven and earth, there’s no path of return for this stone heart. The so called nothingness is but exile from the cycle of life, Like the tides ebbing and flowing. Turns out, having nothing at all— It’s called: Qi Tian Da Sheng (The Great Sage, Heaven’s Equal). [DIALOG] I came. I fought. I don’t care about the outcome. I am Qi Tian Da Sheng (The Great Sage, Heaven’s Equal) Sun Wukong.
