Brazilian MMA fighter Monique Bastos fought back against a man who allegedly tried to steal her cell phone by placing him in a choke hold (video below).

Bastos and two friends were on their way to her jiu-jitsu training in Acailandia, Brazil, when she was attacked by two men.

"I was going to my jiu-jitsu training when they arrived on a motorcycle and said they wanted our phones," Bastos told MMAFighting.com. "I tried to hold my phone, and I realized they were not armed. When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground. The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one."

Bastos placed the would-be thief in a rear-naked choke and took him down to the sidewalk where she locked him in a triangle choke.

A triangle choke is when a person wraps their legs around another’s head and chokes them.

In the video, the man is seen crying and begging for Bastos to let him out of the choke hold, reports Yahoo News.

“Dad, Dad, I’m going to my dad. Call the police, father. Help! Help! Help, Jesus. Please, I did not rob,” the alleged thief says in the video. “Why would I do this? Help. Help. Look at my wallet. Help. Help. Sir, help me. Please don’t show my card. This was the first time. She’s choking me. Where’s my mom? Aie, Aie, Aie. Help! Help! Please, I need my wallet. No, I did not rob anything, no.”

This is not the first time Bastos has defended herself against a thief.

"I’ve been through this a few times before, and it’s the second time I fought back," Bastos said. "There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It’s a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned."

The thief, identified as Wesley Sousa de Araujo, was arrested by police fifteen minutes after Bastos placed him in the choke hold.
