The present moment is the one you’re in right now. It’s before the future happens and it’s once the past has passed. Sometimes, we need to be reminded of the present moment, to let go of the day’s stress and the thoughts that keep us up at night. This is where the breath comes in. Because you can’t breathe a past breath or a future breath. And so, this practice invites you to gently drop into the here and now, and to let go of thoughts that keep you from easing into rest… As you come to understand that there is only now that matters, as you drop into the present moment, you will become able to tune out the thoughts that steal your sleep. The past memories of the day and the future concerns of tomorrow do not have a place in this moment. This moment is to create space for rest. So, find a comfortable sleep position in your bed–whether it’s lying on your back or on your side, with a soft or heavy blanket, or none at all. Adjust your pillow and just make sure you’re all set for a good night’s sleep. When you’re all settled in, close your eyes. We’re going to start by taking 3 deep breaths. On a count of 4, you will breathe in, hold, and then breathe out on a count of 6. The reason we do it this way is that by gently holding our breath and then exhaling for longer than when we inhale, we eventually trigger the relaxation response. And this triggers your body to enter into a deep state of serenity and relaxation. And so, let’s begin. Inhale for 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. Hold… Exhale for 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5.. 6.. Once again, breathe in for 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. Hold… And exhale for 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5.. 6.. One last time inhale for 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. Hold… And exhale for 1.. 2.. 3.. 4.. 5.. 6. As you return to your normal breathing pattern, settle into this moment. Here and now. Consider for a moment that this present moment is a gift. The moment you are giving yourself to rest now, to be fully present with your breath. And consider for a moment that every breath is a gift. Gratitude softens the heart. It makes us more present to what is happening to us. And gratitude for each moment offers another gift: It gently invites us to become more accepting. To resistless to situations that are out of our control. And so, in this moment, simply be here and enjoy the flow of your natural breath. Notice the rise and fall of your body as you breathe. Gently breathing in. Gently breathing out. Think of your breath as gentle and subtle as a breeze of warm air. Feel the weight of your body pressing against the surface beneath you. Let yourself be held here, in this moment. Drop your shoulders. Relax your jaw. Let your feet fall limply to the sides. You are relaxing in the here… and now. You are gently dropping into this present moment. Release all tension from your body. In this moment, you can choose to liberate yourself from all tension. And so, simply drop into it. Dropping… into this moment. Continue to observe your breath. Rising… and falling… Rising… and falling...Rising… and falling... And as you continue to breathe, observe how peaceful your body and mind are right now. There is no other moment that matters more than the one you are currently experiencing. Moment to moment… you relax more deeply. Moment to moment… you are becoming more and serene. And as you continue to drop further and further into this moment, this place, this very instant, allow yourself to drift into sleep. ---------------------- #GuidedMeditation #RelaxingMusic #SleepBetter
