For a healthy person, it is easy to choose the foods that can help sustain health and maximize bodily function. But when it comes to a person who has got some kidney problems, they need to be extra picky about the food to include in their diet. To ease the process of choosing the best foods for kidneys, we make sure to come with the best and relevant topic every time. This time it is about #beetroots. Beetroots are a healthy addition to a diet, but off chance, you have got some kidney problems, your doctor would suggest avoiding eating beetroot if you are onto a renal diet. Beetroot is loaded with fiber, folate, vitamin B9, manganese, potassium, iron, and vitamin C. These minerals are sought to worsen the state of kidneys. Apart from these minerals, kidney patients are also prompted not to take potassium, sodium, phosphorus, etc. as they tend to burden the kidneys and slow down their function. Other reasons why you should not eat beetroots during kidney problems: 1. Consuming beetroots can raise blood sugar levels if you are a diabetic patient. For a nondiabetic patient, the excess consumption of beetroot may increase the risk of CKD. 2. If you have hypotension or low blood pressure, taking beetroot can apparently worsen your blood pressure level. 3. Binge consumption of beetroot can also lead to beeturia. It is a condition in which the urine or stool appears to be pink or red-colored. Though the condition is harmless, you should always eat beetroot with consultation from your dietician. 4. Even a healthy person should eat beetroot in a limited amount. On average, try to consume at max three beetroots per week. 5. If otherwise healthy people consume beetroot in the form of juice or it raw, then it increases the risk of formation of the kidney stone. The oxalates in the beetroot are the risk factor that can allow the formation of the stones in the kidneys. 6. Having too much beetroot in your diet can reduce the calcium level in the blood. This reduction of the calcium level in the body can create many unpleasing and uncomfortable situations. A kidney patient should always consult their dietician or doctor before making any dietary changes.
