Description:
As humans continue to impact on the world around us, Duncan encourages us to consider approaches which enable nature to cope with our pervasive existence. Using the examples of the humpback whale and collared peccary, this talk suggests how new technology could positively support cooperation between other species and ourselves. Duncan is a designer and engineer based in London, with interests spanning data driven and computational design, artificial animal products, and cradle to cradle sustainability. He is currently based in London, working as the Co-Founder of abnormal, an algorithmic art and design studio. As part of his work, Duncan has developed the concept of Augmented Nature, described as ‘a set of robotic tools that help animals adapt to the mass extinction’. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
