Greetings, ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to BBEX Direct!

I'm Vladcat95 | And I'm Kevstrack

K: Today, we're inviting you to come with us and check out what kind of surprises await for us in the 13th Edition for the Bunbunmaru Extra.

K: Right now, Vladcat and I, we'll check out all contributions to the fanzine to celebrate its release.

V: But before we do that, for those who are new to this "BBEX" fanzine, and don't know what it is, we'll check a bit of history.

V: "Bunbunmaru Extra" or "BBEX" is a digital fanzine made by and for fans of Touhou Project.

V: Its foundation was inspired by a similar fanzine released around 2007 and 2009, called "Another Dream".

K: The fanzine has a history of 10 years since its first edition, in 2010.

K: It first started out as a quarterly project. However, after its 6th edition, it was published yearly.

V: As its name shows, the fanzine was born in Bunbumaru Foros, community that was in charge of its organization and publishing until its 10th edition.

V: In 2019, Bunbunmaru Foros merged with Paradise of Boundaries, and BBEX's publishing and organization was passed on to PoB.

K: 10 years is a big trajectory, but... it's still far from over! Today, BBEX's history keeps on being written with its 13th Edition's release.

K: And we want to thank everyone who contributed to the fanzine, as well as Paradise of Boundaries' administration for continuing its legacy.

V: By the way! We want to remind you that BBEX 13 will be available for download at Paradise of Boundaries after the presentation is over. (DISCLAIMER: The Fanzine has not been translated.)

K: If you're still not in, you can find the link to the Discord server in this video's description.

V: Now that we're done, we can now check out what surprises can be found within the fanzine.

K: To make it easier for browsing, contributions to the fanzine have been categorized according to their type of content, and each category has its own icon.

V: This camera icon is for articles. It was chosen to reference Aya Shameimaru, who writes the Bunbunmaru Newspaper, which is the origin to the forums and the community that founded it.

K: The icon to the left is for fanarts, and the one to the right is for music.

V: The icon you see for piled books is for fanfiction, and the notebook with the pen is for guides.

K: The icon on the left has a block and a tablet, and it goes for everything related to graphic design and 3D projects.

V: And the other one is for manga that were translated or redrawn.

K: Hey Vlad, why don't we start with... a music album?

V: Sure thing! And I think I know exactly which one we should start this adventure with. Kevstrack, play that video!

YOU WERE WAITING FOR

V: GensokyoTraveller gifts us with an analysis of the Touhou Project franchise!

V: From Highly Responsive to Prayers' release until today, with its' 17 mainline games, and almost 30 in total.

V: The article "A Small Analysis about Touhou Project, its History, and Evolution" achieves what the title promises.

V: In it, we can find a revision of all the important events throughout the franchise's development, such as a few theories made by fans and a few curiosities about ZUN, like his fondness of beer and trumpets.

K: The fanfiction "Touhou Oblivion" isn't a story about Reimu, nor one that happens in Gensokyo, but rather one that occurs in our world, and the characters that appear are people who love the Touhou games.

K: This tale written by the administrator for Paradise of Boundaries, Cotton Sheep, follows two girls who love Touhou videogames, one of which shares their name with the eastern witch.

K: They get bored of the mainline games and decide to embark a journey to find the most unknown fangames with an objective in mind: finding the most obscure and strange fangame of them all.

V: Of all entities that live in Gensokyo - Gods, Youkai, Humans, and fairies - these last ones seem to be the most underestimated.

V: Fairies are seen as weak beings, with little intelligence, and never taken seriously.

V: However, fairies like Clownpiece, have shown they have more potential than what they're credited for.

V: The team Team Project Gensokyo presents us with a story about a fangame they're currently developing.

V: In it, all fairies in Gensokyo mysteriously disappear, except for Cirno and Clownpiece, who decide to investigate what's going on

V: Soon enough, four towers show up without explanation, and all fairies that vanished began coming out from these, who then begin attacking our protagonists.

V: It seems someone with the skill to manipulate both weak physically and mind beings is controlling them and it's upon Cirno and Clownpiece to put an end to this incident.

V: To accompany this tale, the guys behind Team Project Gensokyo gave us a sneak peek of the game's music.

K: Very well, we've seen until now an analysis about Touhou's story, a fanfiction about the franchise, a sneak peek of a fangame, and an album by YaboiMatoi!

V: Yeah! It's very impressing and we've only begun! We have many contributions to go through yet!

K: Very nice. What's next?

V: I propose we check out some fanarts by all these talented people who decided to contribute to the fanzine.

K: Excellent, let's see those fanarts!

K: The stories we can take from Touhou Project are very diverse.

K: Are you looking for fiction about religious wars? Mythological beings? Travelling to the Moon? Nuclear threats?

K: We have about everything! And that's only within canon.

K: The stories in the fan side are much more diverse, and some talk about something that's not touched as often in the canon side of Gensokyo's tales.

K: We're talking about... Love!

K: Aja, in her article "Sexual Diversity in the Touhou Project fandom" opens a window for us to the lesbian love that exists within the Touhou fandom

K: Reading about it, we get to know about the way the fandom has imagined the Touhou girls, making couples out of them, and their characteristics they each have.

K: The article ends with a reflection about the possibility of including sexual diversity into the Touhou canon... and, why not?

K: After all, we already know it's fake that ZUN said nobody in Gensokyo is gay, fact that's also mentioned in the article.

V: The latest Touhou game has nine different shot styles, beautiful scenery, and a very complex story.

V: For the first time in the franchise, we go down to hell, and even though we just pass by, it doesn't seem like a bad idea to have a guide with us so as to not get lost.

V: Marisaac, the leader for the competitive community "Animal Realm", awards us with his most recent guide for Wily Beast and Weakest Creature.

V: In this guide we can find a revision of the many shot types, advice to dodge bullets from the enemy fairies and bosses, and also, the author's opinion about the story, the scenery and the game's music.

K: The music is one of the aspects that make Touhou unique.

K: We cannot question that ZUN is a very talented composer, and thanks to that, not many games can be compared in terms of soundtrack.

K: However, the music for the very first Windows games, even though they're still good, is a bit off compared to today's technology and software.

K: In this contribution, we have two composers that came together to bring Touhou 8's music to the next level.

K: Orphen Nightford and Williatico are releasing a new album with Imperishable Night's music, arranged and modernized to give it a fresh sound.

V: The hispanic Touhou Project alliance is formed by many spanish-speaking artists and communities dedicated to the Touhou fandom.

V: Kevstrack and I are part of it, as well as Paradise of Boundaries.

V: You may already know about the alliance because of the community surveys and the PoFV tournament which we organized around late last year.

V: If you want to know more about this alliance and what's done within it, you should read the article where this information is shared

V: We're going well! If you like what you're watching then don't click away! We have yet to check out a lot of content!

K: That's right! Just as my good Vlad said, we have seen not even half of the contributions.

V: You can just imagine the amount of contributions we received.

K: And of many types! Some very lengthy, and some others shorter, but that doesn't mean they're not interesting.

V: You've said it! And because of that we've decided to dedicate this section to those shorter but very valuable contributions.

K: This is... BBEX 13: Express section! Let's get this going!

V: Alfynith brings us their arrangement for Touhou 11's Extra themes.

V: "Last Remote" and "Hartmann's Youkai Girl", titled under "Suite for the Unconscious". Alongside the song comes a Koishi fanart.

K: Sebastian translated the manga "Torisumi" - "Laplace and the Tuned Random Number" [?], a short story about Renko and Maribel investigate an urban legend about an old game for the SNES.

V: Nini, the main organizer for zines, talks about her trajectory and experience with organizing Touhou fanzines

K: JerryStuff presents his album, a collection of five excellent covers in a Synthwavey style.

V: Mizuchi gifts with a Spanish translation of the manga "Ego Ego Matarak", by Furukawa.

V: In it, we accompany Koishi Komeiji and Hata no Kokoro, who get in trouble after calling out to that secret God behind the door.

K: PetrichorCore, from Illusionary Projections, presents their very first Touhou album, with various Touhou themes in an Electro style.

V: RedStorm, who was an admin for Bunbunmaru Foros, wrote for us a short love letter to what was once this community.

Spanish Community

V: The competitive community, Animal Realm, wrote up an extensive guide about everything you have to know to be an expert in PoFV.

V: The guide contains a very detailed revision of each character, including all their abilities, charged attacks, pros and cons.

V: It also has comments from users from the community who use each character as their main.

V: The guide ends with a tierlist that classifies each character according to their efficiency and experience the members from Animal Realm have had.

V: If you're interested in participating in the competitive scene for PoFV, you cannot pass up on this opportunity.

K: Translations and adaptations for Touhou play a very important role on its fandom.

K: If there were no translations made by fans, it's very possible that the western fandom, including the spanish one, wouldn't have existed.

K: Because of that, in their article "The Importance of Adaptations and Translations to Spanish", the UFO's Scans community reminds us it's thanks to fan translations that allows to know what's going on.

K: Likewise, UFO's Scans emphasises how much damage wrongful translations can do, and corrects some terms that have been used in the Spanish fandom.

K: One of these is the Japanese term "Reichou en", which has been mistakenly translated to Spanish as "Primate Garden", basing it off the English translation, but... this should instead be "Park of Humanity".

V: When we talk about Touhou, one of the very first things that come up in our minds are the danmaku patterns, especially from spell cards.

V: Thousands of shapes and colors dance along the screen, and if it weren't because you're trying to dodge those bullets, it'd be a very beautiful show.

V: The members of the Hourai Doll community designed a tribute to the latest game in the franchise.

V: Inspired by "The Grimoire of Marisa", "The Grimoire of Hourai" is a compilation of the spell cards from Wily Beast and Weakest Creature.

V: In the same way it was inspired from, each spell card receives commentary in 1st person.

K: Have you ever wondered... "how would it be to step upon Gensokyo by accident?"

K: As a Touhou fan, the idea probably sounds very enticing. You'll finall be able to meet all your favorite Touhou girls! But... think about it twice.

K: How would you react if, one day, you found yourself in an unknown world filled supernatural beings way stronger than you, and if they wanted, they could possibly end you? Sounds dangerous

K: Isidro Torres, in his story "Change of Course", explores this concept out of Gensokyo.

K: The plot goes about 4 Spanish travellers from late 19th century that are on their way to Mexico, looking for a better life.

K: However, amidst their trip, they find themselves in a mishap, and instead of ending up in the American continent, they end up in Gensokyo.

K: Now, our four protagonists have to find a way to survive and escape this unknown world.
(Okay, I really wanna read that *laughs*)

V: Nice, we've gone through more than half of the contributions.

K: It's incredible that after seeing so many contributions we still have lots of surprises to unveil.

V: What can I say? There really are a lot of talented people within the Touhou fandom.

K: And speaking about talented people, we can't be forgetting the artists! There are still plenty fanarts to check out.

V: Sure! We can't forget about the fanarts. In fact, I have them right here! Let's go check 'em out!

V: Kurokami awards us an in-depth analysis of 7 spell cards, inspired by The Grimoire of both Marisa and Usami.

V: Within "Spellcards Illustrated Compendium", it's thoroughly looked through the most minimal detail from the selected spellcards, looking for hidden meanings.

V: Moreover, for each analysed spellcard, we get a beautiful fanart.

V: Can you imagine Touhou in space?

V: In Legacy of Lunatic Kingdom, and in the Silent Sinner in Blue manga, we could see Touhou on the moon, but never in the cosmos.

V: If you've wondered how an adventure with the Hakurei shrine maiden out of this world and its natural satellite, then "Touhou Space Secret Story" is for you.

V: In this story written by LuisGm and LazyLasagne, we go along with Reimu Hakurei while she tries to find out the cause of a mysterious meteor shower that's been going on each night.

V: While she investigates, our protagonist finds out the incident is much more complex than expected, and its origin seems to be out of this world.

K: Let's go back to our planet and Gensokyo.

K: No, I'm not saying this figuratively, because of the work done by Wolfytonio, Paradise of Boundaries' moderator, we can appreciate how Gensokyo would look in 3D.

K: Using a very well known sandbox game from 2006, Garry's Mod, as a tool, Wolfytonio managed to recreate many key sceneries from the Touhou Project series in 3D.

K: Among some places, we can appreciate the Magic Forest and the Dream World in all of their glory.

K: Well... that was the last one!

V: It's been a nice adventure! Many articles, songs, fanfiction...
