Introducing Motion Shadow, a wearable kinematic sensor system for measuring 3d human body motion.  The Shadow system uses custom MotionNode IMU sensors embedded in neoprene straps, with a WiFi-enabled controller and data-logging capability.  Pressure sensing shoe insoles are included as well.  The sensor straps are easily attached and removed, for efficient use in a studio, clinical environment, or in the field.

After a short and simple calibration process, position and rotation data can be recorded to on-board storage, or streamed in real-time to a PC.  Using footstep tracking and a human body kinematic model, Motion Shadow tracks the 3d position and joint orientations of the subject.  This data can be imported into a variety of content creation applications or data analysis tools using industry standard file formats.

The Shadow system includes an easy to use software user interface, and a 3d viewer application for visualization of skeleton, orientation, and position data from the inertial and pressure sensors.  A software development kit is also included to access real-time sensor data in custom user applications.

Because Shadow's sensor technology is inertial, the system requires no cameras, and it can be used anywhere.  On-board data storage allows continued recording in any location, even if no wireless connection is within range.  Record human body motion outdoors at the park, on the street, or at the beach - you are no longer limited to capturing in the studio.  In remote locations, you can easily start and stop recording using an iPhone, iPad, or other Wifi-enabled mobile device.
