You may have noticed our "Attendance Counts" campaign this month.

There are lots of reasons it's important for students to be in school:

Studies show that children missing too many days in Kindergarten and 1st grade often have trouble reading by the end of their 3rd grade year.

Research also shows that students suffer academically if they miss 10% or more school days.

We know that attending school regularly helps students feel better about school and themselves.

So students and parents, make attendance a priority.

You'll be better off academically and emotionally.

Community members can help by reinforcing good attendance and building a culture of attendance within your local groups.

Businesses can donate incentives for improved attendance...

and more importantly, share the message with their employees. Lots of whom are parents.

Together, we can spread the word that attendance counts. Every day, every one.

Speaking of counting days, I am quickly approaching my 100th day in the district.

And I want to thank the more than 5,800 people who took the entry plan survey.

Many others have taken their personal time to meet with me and share their thoughts about the health and future of the school district.

Tonight, I will host the first of two town hall meetings, where I will share the initial results of the survey.

Attendees will then have an opportunity to add meaning to those results as together we begin our work to shape Klein ISD's future.
