TAKE A BREATH: WHAT A NEW STUDY FROM YALE REVEALS ABOUT STRESS AND MENTAL HEALTH A recent study at Yale explored mental wellness interventions with surprising results. In a randomized controlled-trial, a rigorous model of scientific experimentation, participants were randomly assigned to three wellness interventions and a control group. Measurements of student well-being were taken pre and post intervention. The groups were: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Emotional Intelligence program SKY Campus Happiness A no-intervention control group. After eight weeks of trial and months of analysis, researchers found that the SKY results were the strongest, showing significant improvements for stress, depression, mental health, social connectedness, positive emotion, and mindfulness. The emotional intelligence program showed positive improvement for one marker, mindfulness. The Mindfulness (MBSR) group did not show any significant changes.
