Guns are an essential part of Rust.
00:03.6
00:10.0
They're mandatory for effective mid- and late-game PvP, as well as protecting yourself from other players.
00:10.1
00:14.5
But for many beginners, finding even one gun is a challenge.
00:14.6
00:18.0
So where exactly do you find guns in Rust?
00:18.1
00:23.8
Well, in this video I'll go through where and how to get guns in Rust, which monuments and methods
00:23.9
00:28.5
have the highest spawn chance, and which methods I personally go for.
00:29.0
00:34.5
This video includes the newest versions of the monuments, and their spawn rates and the information
00:34.6
00:39.0
in this video is applicable for both PC and console versions of Rust.
00:40.0
00:45.5
Similar to my other Rust videos, this video is divided into seven different sections, and you can find
00:45.6
00:50.0
the timestamps for each segment in the description down below, or on the screen now.
00:52.5
00:59.0
Finally, if you happen to learn something or enjoy this video, please consider leaving a like or subscribing,
00:59.1
01:03.5
as it really helps out the channel, and I enjoy the dopamine of seeing the number go up.
01:03.6
01:06.0
Now, on to the video.
01:08.5
01:14.3
First, let's start off with the different types of crates where guns can spawn, so that you know what you're looking for.
01:14.4
01:24.0
In Rust, there are three different crates that can spawn guns, and they are: the regular crates, military crates, and elite crates.
01:24.1
01:30.5
These different crate types, of course, have different guns in them, and consequently different spawn chances.
01:30.6
01:41.0
Regular crates have a 3% gun spawn rate, military crates have a 6% gun spawn rate, and elite crates have a 28% gun spawn rate.
01:41.1
01:48.5
There are other containers that can spawn guns, but they're much rarer and unique, and I'll cover them later in the video.
01:52.0
01:55.5
Starting off, we'll begin with the no-tier monuments.
01:55.6
02:00.5
First there's the abandoned cabins with a 6% chance of spawning guns.
02:00.6
02:08.0
Next, the lighthouse has three possible crate spawns, so you have a 9% chance of getting at least one gun.
02:08.1
02:14.5
The mining outpost, while it may seem full of crates, you only have a 17% chance of finding a gun there.
02:14.6
02:19.5
The newly updated junkyard has an 18% chance of spawning guns.
02:19.6
02:22.9
It's called a junkyard for a reason.
02:23.0
02:30.5
Oxums gas station is a good early-game monument because it has three regular crates in addition to two military crates.
02:30.6
02:34.5
You have a 19% chance of finding a gun there.
02:34.6
02:43.0
Similar to Oxums, the supermarket, also known as the sperm ket, is a great early-game monument.
02:43.1
02:49.5
It has four regular crates and two military crates. You have a 22% chance of finding a gun.
02:49.6
02:54.0
Finally for this section we have the tunnel stations.
02:54.1
02:59.0
Since the tunnels go under the entire map, it would be ridiculous to calculate the percentages
02:59.1
03:04.5
for all the stations — therefore, I'll only calculate one station's percentage.
03:04.6
03:08.5
One station has a 35% chance of spawning guns
03:11.0
03:13.9
Now, on to the tier one monuments.
03:14.0
03:23.5
Satellite dish is the worst in this section, with a 14% chance if you don't do the keycard puzzle and a 19% chance if you do.
03:23.6
03:32.0
Small harbor is a tiny bit better here with a 15% chance without the puzzle and a 22% chance with.
03:32.1
03:41.0
Large harbor is better. If you don't do the puzzle, 22% chance, if you do do the puzzle, 26% chance.
03:41.1
03:49.5
A very good tier 1 monument, the dome, has a 35% chance of spawning a gun in one of its ten total crates.
03:49.6
03:54.0
Finally, the best tier 1 monument is the sewer branch.
03:54.1
04:02.0
Without doing the puzzle you have a 30% chance, and a 50% chance of finding a gun if you do do the puzzle.
04:02.1
04:07.5
Next we have the tier 2 monuments, also known as blue card monuments.
04:07.6
04:16.5
Starting off we have power plant with a 38% chance of finding a gun without doing the puzzle, and a 55% chance if you do do the puzzle.
04:16.6
04:25.5
After that, there's the airfield with a 45% chance if you don't do the puzzle and a 61% chance if you do.
04:25.6
04:33.0
Next, we have water treatment with a 54% chance without the puzzle and a 64% chance with.
04:33.1
04:44.0
Finally, and a personal favorite of mine — the trainyard has a 49% of spawning guns if you don't do the puzzle and a 68% chance if you do.
04:44.1
04:48.0
Lastly, we have the tier 3 monuments.
04:48.1
04:53.3
The launch site, home to the Bradley APC, has a 70% chance of spawning a weapon
04:53.4
04:58.0
without doing the puzzle and a 92% chance if you do.
04:58.1
05:05.0
Guarded by dozens of AI scientists, the military tunnels are your best bet for finding guns.
05:05.1
05:10.0
Not only can each scientist drop a gun, there's also seven elite crates total.
05:10.1
05:17.0
You have an 88% chance of finding a gun if you don't do the puzzle and a 98% chance if you do.
05:19.5
05:22.0
Now for the special monuments.
05:22.1
05:29.5
The small and large oil rigs are off-shore monuments on top of which are locked crates protected by armed AI scientists.
05:29.6
05:36.0
Uh, if you'd like to see how to do small oil rig, I made a guide on it, which you can find in the top-right corner now.
05:36.1
05:44.5
Anyway, there's only one locked crate here; however, there are also scientists and different types of crates, which can spawn guns.
05:44.6
05:54.0
The overall probability of getting at least one gun from small and large oil rigs is 100% chance, with a 96% chance of getting a second one.
05:54.1
06:01.5
The giant excavator is a monument that sometimes spawns on the island and is guarded by a number of armed scientists.
06:01.6
06:09.5
However, despite this, it only has a 4% chance of spawning guns so I wouldn't recommend it.
06:09.6
06:16.5
The attack heli, also known as the patrol heli, occasionally comes to patrol over the island.
06:16.6
06:20.5
If you shoot it down, it'll drop four helicopter crates.
06:20.6
06:24.0
Combined, they have a gun spawn rate of 50%.
06:24.1
06:28.6
However, I wouldn't recommend trying this method since it's very difficult for newer players,
06:28.7
06:33.0
and more experienced Rust players will usually come to counter the wreckage.
06:33.1
06:39.0
The chinook helicopter sometimes flies over the island to drop a locked crate at different monuments,
06:39.1
06:42.5
like water treatment and dome, just to name a couple.
06:42.6
06:50.5
The locked crate itself has a 100% chance of having at least one gun, but usually has two to three.
06:50.6
06:55.5
The cargo ship is an event which involves a cargo ship sailing around the island.
06:55.6
07:01.5
It carries three locked crates as well as a number of regular, military, and elite crates.
07:01.6
07:08.5
Overall, you're guaranteed of at least getting three guns, and a 92% chance of getting more.
07:08.6
07:14.0
Every once in a while, a cargo plane will drop a supply drop somewhere on the island.
07:14.1
07:20.5
Quick note, by the way: supply drops can be summoned by players by throwing down supply beacons.
07:20.6
07:26.5
Each supply drop has one guaranteed gun and a 67% chance of having more.
07:29.0
07:34.0
You may find that large groups of players will actually be selling guns in player shops.
07:34.1
07:38.5
They usually sell them for sulfur or scrap, so if you want to farm a little bit,
07:38.6
07:44.0
I'd say that just buying a gun from a player shop is generally a good idea.
07:44.1
07:47.5
This is possibly the most straightforward way to get a gun.
07:47.6
07:51.5
Just eliminate other players who already found guns.
07:51.6
07:55.5
That way, you don't have to deal with doing monuments and looting crates.
07:55.6
07:57.5
If you hear shots, go towards them.
07:57.6
08:03.5
And obviously, a bow vs. a gun isn't a fair fight, so I'd recommend trying to grub a fight.
08:03.6
08:11.5
That means using lower-tier weapons like compound bows to kill highly geared players that already have guns
08:11.6
08:18.8
If you start a bit later into the wipe, there's a good chance that there will be a few decaying bases that have guns inside.
08:18.9
08:23.3
I recommend checking them out. You never know what you may find in those.
08:23.4
08:28.5
Safe zones such as the outpost and bandit camp actually sell guns for scrap.
08:28.6
08:37.3
The outpost sells revolvers and double barrels and the bandit camp sells slightly better guns like LRs, M39s, and M92s.
08:37.4
08:43.5
If you find that you're sitting on a bunch of scrap, you can also use the tech tree inside your workbench to get guns.
08:43.6
08:49.5
All you have to do is open the workbench and research the particular branch that leads to a gun.
08:49.6
08:55.0
The Bradley APC tank, as we mentioned before, is the tank that guards the launch site.
08:55.1
09:04.5
If you manage to take it out, it'll drop three APC crates. There's a 56% chance of getting at least one gun from Bradley.
09:04.6
09:09.0
Once you actually get a gun, you'll have to research it so that you can craft it later.
09:09.1
09:14.5
Depending on the gun, it can cost anywhere between 75 and 500 scrap.
09:14.6
09:20.5
Keep in mind that the military-grade weapons such as M92s and LRs cannot be researched.
09:20.6
09:25.5
To research a gun, go to your research table, throw the gun and the scrap in there,
09:25.6
09:30.0
and after a few seconds, you'll get a blueprint for that gun.
09:30.1
09:36.0
After you've researched the gun that you found, you have to craft it and to do that, you need specific components.
09:36.1
09:44.0
The components that are usually needed to craft guns are springs, SAR bodies, SMG bodies, and rifle bodies
09:44.1
09:48.5
However, the materials and the amounts vary entirely on what gun you're making.
09:48.6
09:56.0
So, to be absolutely certain of what components you need, just check the crafting requirements in the crafting menu.
09:56.1
10:00.5
Personally, my favorite methods of getting guns are by looting decayed bases,
10:00.6
10:05.5
through PvP, and by doing trainyard and sewer branch a couple of times.
10:05.6
10:10.5
I find that these options are the simplest and most effective for me and my play style.
10:10.6
10:14.5
But then again, that's just my play style and how I enjoy playing.
10:14.6
10:19.5
If you really have no idea where to start, I'd recommend just buying a gun from a player shop.
10:19.6
10:28.5
If there aren't any player shops, the dome is a good place to go since it has a good spawn chance for a monument with no puzzle.
10:28.6
10:33.0
Now for the math part of the video. I'll make it fast.
10:33.1
10:38.0
First, I calculated the probability of getting at least one gun from each crate.
10:38.1
10:44.5
Then, I went around all the monuments in Rust and counted how many of each type of crate there was.
10:44.6
10:48.5
I then multiplied the number of crates with their corresponding probability
10:48.6
10:53.0
to find the probability of getting at least one gun from that specific crate.
10:53.1
11:00.5
I then multiplied the probabilities of all the crates from one monument together to find the probability with and without doing the puzzle.
11:00.6
11:06.5
Therefore giving me the total probability of getting at least one gun from each monument.
11:06.6
11:15.0
Lastly, just to be sure, I rans some monuments a few times to find if the experimental probability matched my theoretical probability.
11:15.1
11:18.5
If you want to be more depressed than you already will be from playing Rust,
11:18.6
11:22.5
I've attached a link to the Google spreadsheet in the description.
11:22.6
11:27.0
Finally, I'd like to thank my homie Alex, who is exceptionally smarter than me
11:27.1
11:31.0
and who stayed up until three in the morning helping me figure out all of this shit.
11:31.1
11:33.5
So, thank you Alex.
11:35.0
11:38.5
Well gamers, that's the end of this video.
11:38.6
11:44.5
Apologies for taking so long to upload this one, but math sucks ass and I'm not the brightest tool in the shed.
11:44.6
11:51.0
Anyway, if you enjoyed or learned something from this video, please consider leaving a like and subscribing.

12:01.0
I've been streaming on Twitch recently, so if you're interested, the link for that is in the description.
12:01.1
12:08.0
Also, I have a Discord server which you can join; I post announcements, memes, and other stuff in there, so…
12:08.1
12:10.9
I don't know, I'd say it's pretty worth it.
12:11.0
12:17.0
That's all from me boys, I hope you have a wonderful day, and do not. Fucking. Shoot yourself.
