When King Charles IV of France died without a male heir, Instead of Edward III , The French choose Philip VI to be their king. On the other side King Edward III of England claimed that he was the rightful king of France.Edward III believed that He was the heir to the French Crown through his mother Isabella. In 1337 when King Philip VI (France) took control of Aquitaine (An area in Southwest France, that belonged to England) from England,King Edward III decided to fight back.He decided to invade France & reassert his right to the French throne. Rising of the Joan of Arc Joan was very courageous young woman. Birth-1412 Death-30 May 1431 Joan of Arc led the French army to victory at Orléans when she was only 17 years old.In 1429 the English were driven out of Northern France and the final battle took place at Castillon on July 17, 1453, with a victory for France. This event was the turning point in the Hundred Years' War. A peasant girl, Joan became a symbol of national consciousness. Joan was called The Maid of Orleans.
