00:09.6
00:11.5
Well, something is gone in the drivetrain!
00:13.3
00:17.4
Hey! It's been 2 years since we started this Swift turbo project,
00:17.7
00:20.6
And we've been using Maxpeedingrods turbos since the beginning.
00:20.8
00:25.8
We got the first one balanced and it held up pretty good,
00:25.9
00:28.0
We originally put that into the red Swift,
00:29.0
00:32.4
And it's been put through its paces pretty hard.
00:32.5
00:38.5
And then when we made it eat lots of sand in Piliscsév that meant its end.
00:38.6
00:41.3
It cost us the block and the turbo as well,
00:42.0
00:46.8
The turbocharger's shaft had lots of play it in it and it was smoking badly.
00:46.9
00:51.9
The block stayed in place for a long time afterwards, but we put on a new turbo,
00:53.0
00:59.3
The new turbo didn't hold up too well, I think it only lasted for about 2 hours of usage, and it's been smoking from the very beginning.
00:59.9
01:06.9
It however wasn't down on power. It came on pretty late in the RPM range, but it was a big turbo to being with, a GT2871,
01:07.8
01:14.4
The engine is too small for it, it is recommended for 1.5 to 2.0L displacement motors.
01:14.5
01:23.4
So it was oversized for us, but it still managed to deliver 208WHP at the rear wheels, which isn't bad!
01:23.5
01:30.3
Since that second turbo had lots of play in it and smoking bad too, we put on a new third one,
01:30.4
01:37.5
And that was also smoking out of the box, so we thought, let's try something else finally.
01:37.6
01:45.3
We bought a Garrett turbo, a smaller, ball bearing Garrett turbocharger for it, a GT2554R.
01:45.8
01:55.2
We haven't changed anything else apart from the turbo on the engine and we took it back to HubDyno Budapest for Emil to check it over and tweak the program for this smaller turbo.
02:22.3
02:28.8
Swapping the turbo more or less delivered the gains we expected, however the price difference is huge,
02:28.9
02:34.8
This Maxxpeeding' turbo costs around 50,000HUF (120-125EUR/USD), which is basically nothing for a turbo to be honest.
02:35.1
02:42.4
If you want to buy one like this, you can get a 5% discount by using the 'oliveramon' coupon code.
02:42.9
02:48.8
The Garrett turbo costs about 6x as much, around 300,000HUF (730€/745$),
02:48.9
02:55.4
You can also have a discount on this one if you buy it through Raceshop, using the same, 'oliveramon' coupon code. Approximately 15,000HUF (36-37 EUR/USD) comes off the price.
02:57.1
03:02.6
This is our new dyno chart, 250Nm (185ft lb) and 211hp,
03:02.8
03:14.4
The torque peak is pretty early on in the rev-range, it is already very usable at around 4.3k and starts coming on boost well before 4,000.
03:14.7
03:23.5
The thicker line here shows the previous, Maxpeedingrods turbo and the thinner lines represents the new, Garrett turbo's run.
03:23.6
03:32.1
Here you can see at this point, a little bit under 4,500, we gained more than 60Nm,
03:33.1
03:47.3
And it speaks for itself how much sooner it starts to build power and torque and how much wider the powerband has become.
03:48.3
03:53.8
Pretty much from 4,300 till redline we are above 230Nm.
03:54.7
04:00.6
We'll try the car in a bit and see how much I can feel this difference while driving!
04:04.7
04:06.7
Let's take a look at a carVertical report!
04:06.8
04:11.2
Here we can see this vehicle has been clocked back and also been crashed before.
04:11.3
04:18.5
It was originally sold in the US in '17, then went to Germany in 2020 and then finally to Hungary in '21.
04:19.2
04:22.9
From 58,000kms they clocked it back to 30k!
04:24.1
04:28.6
Let's see the damage: They wrecked the right front of the car back in the USA.
04:30.3
04:35.2
The last price it was listed for was 24,500€ in 10.2020.
04:36.0
04:41.0
Here are the photos, they uploaded these pictures of the damaged car in 02.2019.
04:41.1
04:46.5
They crashed the right front of the car pretty badly, but then 3 months later you can see the same car being repaired.
04:46.6
04:52.4

05:01.9
05:06.8
The difference is unbelievable. The car picks up so good, like never before!
05:14.7
05:20.6
We used to use anti-lag almost all the time, because otherwise there was no usable range.
05:21.1
05:28.1
Now after these 2 laps and I haven't even drifted yet, I feel like we won't really need ALS anymore at all.
05:28.5
05:32.4
It's good for the show, but the car doesn't need it.
06:06.7
06:07.6
Crazy good!
06:08.6
06:15.7
The engine became really lively now, it is very progressively drivable, I can do the back return in 2nd gear now,
06:15.8
06:22.3
Without me having to clutch kick it, it builds boost. Night and day difference, for real!
06:22.4
06:30.4
It feels like as if the engine made tons more power than before but in reality it just comes on power sooner and the power band is wider.
06:35.0
06:39.3
This new turbo sounds totally different too by the way. Sounds really good.
06:39.9
06:42.5
Let's test it with ALS too just to make sure.
07:35.8
07:46.4
The turbo is flawless, the engine is flawless. Now comes the part where we put the front axles back in and see if I can make it go sideways around this track,
07:46.5
07:56.5
I am not sure about that. After we will raise the car back up, put the smaller size wheels on and take it to a rallycross track.
08:08.8
08:14.4
We put the front drivetrain parts back it, I'll test what it can take on concrete around here now.
08:57.0
08:58.5
It needs me to pay more attention now!
09:07.1
09:09.3
Well, something is gone in the drivetrain!
09:11.0
09:14.2
It seems like our rear drive is gone,
09:14.7
09:21.2
We'll check where the problem might be, if it's in the gearbox, or the rear diff or the drive shaft, or god knows...
09:21.3
09:32.0
It's not surprising, since there is no handbrake, it can only go sideways when in awd mode if I give a decent kick on the clutch.
09:32.1
09:40.9
And when the rear starts moving, I can control it with throttle. It seemed like it started having the issue when I kicked on it.
09:43.2
09:48.1
We'll find out soon! But maybe the rallycross test with this car is not gonna happen tomorrow.
09:56.8
09:58.9
Yeah, it broke here, maybe the shaft in this broke.
10:00.8
10:06.6
Our idea is that there is a shaft in here and that maybe got twisted or something.
10:06.9
10:14.8
There is guy abroad who has turbo'd a car like this already, and he also told me this part is the weak link.
10:14.9
10:19.7
It held up pretty well until now. In case it really is the thing that broke, but it likely is, the oil is coming from there.
10:19.8
10:27.2
Our guess was right, this middle piece broke. We'll take it apart later and show you what exactly happened to it.
10:28.2
10:41.5
Daniel quickly swapped in another one of these. The only unique thing about the old one was that we welded some angle steel onto here which was then bolted to the chassis,
10:41.6
10:49.5
Without it this can develop a movement like this and hit the chassis. We quickly moved this over to the replacement.
10:49.6
10:58.6
I'll try it out, hopefully it's good. I won't be pushing it to be sure to make it to the Kecel track tomorrow.
10:58.7
11:05.7
The driveline won't break on dust, it is more likely to damage on concrete.
11:06.7
11:17.1
Pretty much this is all, we'll do a final night test, it is 7PM. Then we'll come back 3AM tomorrow, pack up and we'll head to Kecel.
11:48.7
11:57.2
The car is now flawless, hopefully it will be able to handle tomorrow. We won't fuck around anymore with it today,
11:57.3
12:03.9
We'll start prepping for tomorrow. The next video is coming next week and until then, see ya!
