Last week the Board approved our innovative Promise2Purpose strategic plan.

It was a pleasure to present the work of 70 devoted strategic planning team members to the Board of Trustees last Monday evening.

This committed group of educators, parents and caregivers, business partners, and community members has been investing deeply in our shared vision over the last several months by thoughtfully creating a plan to make promise to purpose a reality for every student in Klein ISD.

In fact, this team of outstanding folks reviewed over 1300 pieces of written feedback from our community and sat at the design table with current Klein ISD students to ensure they listened to the unique and diverse perspectives of our community.

Throughout the strategic planning process we learned together in a variety of ways, reading Innovator’s Mindset, wandering through current Klein ISD campuses and classrooms, reviewing our guiding documents, and capitalizing on and honoring the various experiences each member brought to the team.

After the team shared their final recommendations for targets and strategies connected to Pathways, Challenge, Equity, Leadership, and Continuous Improvement, there were common themes that emerged -- things like personalized learning, the importance of relationships, and the use of quality feedback to drive future success.

This led us to put together our collective work into the three big priorities for our plan: Reimagine Learning, Cultivate Talent, and Build Community.

Targets for reimagining learning include personalizing instruction, ensuring a quality curriculum, and exploring standards-based evaluation.

For building community, the team focused on building strong relationships throughout the system, engaging and equipping families and caregivers, and being culturally responsive.

Finally, the strategies for cultivating talent include targeted professional learning, ensuring strong feedback loops and opportunities for personal reflection, and, with our work with the Holdsworth Center, developing a best-in-class leadership pipeline.

In the coming weeks, you’ll be hearing more details about these strategic priorities as we thoughtfully move forward with the plan.

All along, our goal was to have a plan that fits on one page--something that our entire community can easily identify, explain, and share with others.

And we wanted an image that captures not only the key areas of focus for our plan but also the connections with our shared vision and our guiding documents.
