Learn more about social anxiety at work: http://truestressmanagement.com/social-anxiety-at-work/ Do you struggle with social anxiety at work? Find it difficult to speak to coworkers? Avoid office parties and happy hour? Or maybe you have difficulty speaking up in meetings. Whatever the case, it's extremely common to experience social anxiety at work. Here are some tips to help overcome the anxiety and experience a more fulfilling and enjoyable time when you're at work: 1. Practice Being Relaxed When you start to get anxious, you naturally start to feel worried and antsy. To calm your nerves, trying relaxation techniques like deep breathing, meditation or visualization. These tactics will help calm your mind and take away some of the anxiety during stressful situations at work. 2. Face Your Fears & Seek Out Social Situations As difficult as it may sound, one of the best ways to beat social anxiety at work is to face your anxiety head on. Often times our fears come from the unknown. After spending time with coworkers and experiencing what it's like to socialize with them, you'll start to feel more comfortable and less anxious. Start slowly by making small talk at the coffee machine. As you start to get more confident, you can try having lunch together. No need to take on too much at once. 3. Take Attention Away From Your Thoughts Social anxiety is caused by focusing your attention inwards instead of outwards. When you're having a conversation with a coworker, don't get wrapped up in your own head worrying about what to say next, whether or not you look interested or other inward feelings. Instead, focus on actively listening to what the other person is saying and keep your mind on them. It'll ease your tension and show that you're interested in the conversation. 4.Talk to a Therapist Therapists work with people living with social anxiety all the time, and can give you the guidance to better handle your situation. Setup an appointment and talk to them about your feelings, and you'll be shocked by how much you learn about yourself! 5. Establish a Support Group We can almost guarantee that you're not the only person in your office that's struggling with social anxiety at work. It's much easier to face fears and anxiety with a group rather than going at it alone. Try to connect with people who seem to experience social anxiety as well. Don't bring it up as a topic of discussion, but simply get to know them and start to build a circle of friends at work that understand how you feel. It'll give you something else to look forward to each day and someone to go to when you're having a particularly rough day.
