Am I fine? 07:13 - Can I get a penalty? 08:29 - Will I lose views if my content is “made for kids”? If you want to know how COPPA happened and what was the YouTube reaction, check out our first video about this topic here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzzl_HANO_E. 1) I make videos that are safe for everyone to watch (family-friendly). Does that mean my videos are made for kids? No. A video is not necessarily made for kids just because it’s safe or appropriate for everyone to watch (aka it’s “family-friendly”). Remember to carefully consider who you’re trying to reach with your videos as you evaluate your content and the factors above. 2) Difference between the general audience and the mixed audience. General audience content is content that could appeal to everyone, but isn’t intended specifically for children, or content that is intended for a teen or older audience. General audience content should be set as “not made for kids.” Mixed audience content, on the other hand, is considered a type of made for kids content. This is content that targets children as one of its audiences, even if it’s not the main or primary audience, and that qualifies as child-directed after balancing the factors described above. 3) What about family vlogs? Some family vloggers make content for kids (such as toy unboxing), while others target parents and adults (for example they talk about upbringing methods). You should ask yourself what’s the real target audience of your channel. 4) Does this impact Minecraft or gaming videos? Although games like Minecraft might appeal to children what's important is whether the content you've created itself is directed toward kids. For example, you play computer games but use bad language/adult humor. These videos go under the category “general audience” so “not made for kids”. 5) Isn’t this what YouTube Kids is for? YouTube says: “These changes must be made outside of the Kids app, on YouTube to ensure our data practices for all content "Made for Kids" are protecting kids' privacy.” 6) Can I still earn money? You can still earn money. The only difference is that ads are not personalized anymore. This means that you might earn less money. 7) Do I have to mark my old videos as “Made for Kids”? Yes. One setting in YouTube Studio sets all old videos to “Made for Kids” 8) How to change settings from mobile Log into YouTube on your mobile browser and set your settings to show the desktop version of the site. 9) I am a kid myself. Am I fine? If you are under 13, you are not supposed to have a YouTube channel, YouTube deletes such accounts. If you are over 13, you are fine. The same rules apply. 10) Can I get a penalty? The US Rule allows for civil penalties of up to $42,530 per violation, but the FTC considers a number of factors in determining the appropriate amount, including a company’s financial condition and the impact a penalty could have on its ability to stay in business. 11) Will I lose views if my content is “made for kids”? There is no clear answer to this one and the algorithm always changes. Of what we could see until now YouTube is actually trying to make YouTube more children friendly and is surfacing more children's content. ▬ About tubics ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ #tubics is a Video Marketing software that helps businesses and YouTube creators to rank their videos better on search engines like YouTube and Google.
