During my first 100 days, I carefully studied Klein data and that of comparable districts.

One area that immediately drew my attention is the percentage of English Language Learners and Special Education students...

...who graduate college-ready in both English Language Arts and Math.

These are critical areas that we must address with a focused sense of urgency.

The district determined that through Guiding Coalition teams we can address this critical need.

These teams meet monthly and are committed to leading and supporting a collaborative change effort to improve student learning and performance.

One guiding Coalition will focus on our English Language Learners and the other will support our Special Education students.

Each team will create a shared vision, select actions to achieve that vision and recruit others to participate in these endeavors.

The Guiding Coalition team member selection process began with nominations from educators that exhibit seven attributes.

Nominees deeply care about students and their educational experiences, are dedicated to improving student outcomes...

...work to transform "why we can't" to "how we can"...

...empower others to invoke change, inspire individuals to action...

...leverage technology to accelerate progress...

...and finally, step forward to create a positive and long-lasting change.

More than 100 educators asked to participate, or were nominated by their colleagues to participate in this critically important work for our students.

I want to thank each of these educators for seeking out this opportunity to serve and lead the district.

I look forward to the work and outcomes from the Guiding Coalition team members.

We know their work will make a difference in the lives of our students.
