Our leaders play a key role in the development of our students’ learning.
00:03.3
00:07.1
So it’s important we define what a Klein ISD leader looks like.
00:07.1
00:11.7
00:11.7
00:14.0
Klein ISD leaders are crucial to student learning.
00:14.0
00:19.2
And before we go too far here, it’s important to note we define a leader as anyone who leads someone.
00:19.2
00:24.1
Students are leaders, teachers are leaders, and certainly, our building administrators are leaders.
00:24.1
00:32.0
To that end, we spent the last few months working with the Holdsworth Center as one of only two districts in the state chosen to participate in their pre-pilot leadership program.
00:32.0
00:38.7
Through this work, and with enormous feedback and thoughts from our community of learners, we developed our Profile of a Leader.
00:38.7
00:45.7
A Klein ISD Leader is Student Focused, Relationship Driven, a Promise2Purpose Investor, and a Forever Learner.
00:45.7
00:56.4
Each of these strands is further clarified, so I wanted you to hear from two of our current campus leaders to help us understand what it looks like to bring this guiding document to life.
00:56.4

Join me in welcoming the proud principal of Klein Forest High School, Lance Alexander, and one of his assistant principals, Jason Bond.
01:04.0
01:04.8
Greetings, guys!
01:04.8
01:05.8
(Both) Thank you.
01:05.8
01:06.3
(Bret) Alright, let's jump right in.
01:06.3
01:15.2
So Lance, our Profile of a Leader states that we need to be student focused by relentlessly pursuing the success of every student. What does that look like at Klein Forest High School?
01:15.2
01:18.7
(Lance) That looks like getting to know each kid on an individual basis.
01:18.7
01:23.6
Where they come from, their parents, their neighborhoods, their interests.
01:23.6
01:26.4
If we do that, it's easier to love them. Because we know where they're coming from.
01:26.4
01:30.3
(Bret) Sure. So it's that notion we talk about that's in the district vision document.
01:30.3
01:34.0
That knowing every student by name, strength and need.
01:34.0
01:38.1
So then you build a plan around that. Is that kind of what you're talking about?
01:38.1
01:39.3
(Lance) It's all about personal relationships.
01:39.3
01:41.2
Positive personal relationships.
01:41.2
01:47.0
(Bret) Positive personal relationships. Which actually goes right into another piece of our profile of a leader.
01:47.0
01:48.4
That I'll be interested to hear about as well.
01:48.4
01:50.8
Which is the idea of being relationship driven.
01:50.8
01:54.6
And this idea of being unwaveringly committed to serving others.
01:54.6
01:57.7
So Jason, what comes to mind when you hear that?
01:57.7
02:01.2
(Jason) Relentlessly pursuing students. Knowledge of students.
02:01.2
02:02.5
Their families, the community.
02:02.5
02:07.6
Inviting them into the school. I know on the elementary level we have nurturing hearts.
02:07.6
02:10.4
And on the middle school level, capturing kids' hearts.
02:10.4
02:13.8
And we try to go ahead and continue forward with that.
02:13.8
02:15.8
By greeting kids as they come to school.
02:15.8
02:17.4
And getting to know them.
02:17.4
02:25.4
(Bret) Alright. So there's this natural tie, then, between the idea of academic success and relationship building.
02:25.4
02:28.4
You would certainly say those go hand in hand?
02:28.4
02:36.3
(Lance) Yes sir. Kids have got to know you love them. They've got to expect you to reward them for the positives they do.
02:36.3
02:38.0
(Bret) Yeah. We're a service business.
02:38.0
02:44.1
(Lance) Service business. That's education. A life of service whether you're a teacher or an administrator.
02:44.1
02:44.7
We're here to serve kids.
02:44.7
02:46.2
(Bret) That's right. A life of service. I love that!
02:46.2
02:51.9
I love that. And so, those are two of the strands we covered today. In the profile of a leader.
02:51.9
02:55.8
There are a couple more and I invite everybody to take a look at the document.
02:55.8
02:59.5
So you can see what it looks like. What defining our culture of leadership here in Klein ISD.
02:59.5
03:06.3
Ultimately, it guides our work to ensure every student enters with a promise and exits with a purpose.
03:06.3
03:11.5
And a quick update for those who watched 90 Seconds last week and met the terrific student, Ian Tonroy.
03:11.5
03:15.8
Ian won Best Actor at the Tommy Tune Awards Tuesday night.
03:15.8
03:19.4
Congratulations, Ian! He's a shining example of Promise2Purpose.
03:19.4
03:20.9
Positively shaping the lives of our students.
03:20.9
03:24.2
Thanks, guys for being here. Appreciate you being here.
03:24.2
03:26.1
Thank you guys for modeling profile of a leader every day.
03:26.1
03:28.3
And with that, see everybody next week!
03:28.3
