This is the moment a TV reporter made a tiny four-year-old cry on his first day of school - by asking him if he would miss his mum.

Andrew Macias was talking to KTLA journalist Courtney Friel as he prepared for his first day at City Terrace Elementary School in Los Angeles.

Courtney then asked Andrew if he was going to miss his mum, to which he initially replied 'No'.

But seconds later, the adorable boy burst into tears, covering his face with his hands.

According to KTLA News, Andrew's mum was on hand to give him a big hug off camera before he walked into school for the first time.

Courtney later admitted she felt terrible about making the little boy cry and took to her Instagram page to post a picture of him, alongside the caption: "This breaks my heart and now I'm anxious about sending my kids to school.

"He was trying to be so brave!"
