This content aligns with the AP World History curriculum Unit 1 Topic 6. European society during this period was socially and politically defined by the concept of feudalism. Feudalism was a series of mutual obligations between the different classes in European society. Additionally, more powerful monarchs arose during this time and that reality shifted political power away from regional lords and into the hands of more centralized kingdoms. However, the Roman Catholic Church regained its power and influence during a series of wars called the Crusades. Sometimes this period is called the Dark Ages because European trade and intellectual life declined. This trend was reversed in the High Middle Ages and the advent of the Renaissance, which gave the world some of its most enduring art and literature. There's more to know, but this video will give you a brief overview of everything you need to know for the AP World History exam.
