00:00.0
00:05.4
The Peace of the Lord Jesus! I would like to give an overview of the book of Genesis.
00:05.5
00:10.1
How are we going to understand a book that has 50 chapters?
00:10.2
00:16.7
Well, these 50 chapters can be divided into two main parts:
00:16.8
00:23.3
the first part goes from chapter 1 to 11, which tells the story of all humanity,
00:23.4
00:30.7
and [the second part] from chapter 12 to chapter 50 speaks of the origin of the Hebrew and Arab peoples.
00:30.8
00:34.4
Generally speaking, we will divide [the study] into eight parts to facilitate,
00:34.5
00:40.2
but before that I would like to show you the importance of this book of Genesis. Why?
00:40.3
00:48.0
Because only in the first 11 chapters there is about 2 thousand years of history,
00:48.1
00:55.9
that is, it certainly has a lot of revelation in these first 11 chapters of the Bible.
00:56.0
01:06.6
From chapter 12 of Genesis to Malachi there are the next 2 thousand years of history!
01:06.7
01:15.5
There are only 11 chapters for 2 thousand years of history, there has to be a lot, a lot of mystery, and God speaks of this in Isaiah 46, let's read it…
01:15.6
01:29.3
Isaiah 46: 9,10: “Remember the former things long past, For I am God, and there is no other; I am God, and there is no one like Me,
01:29.4
01:40.5
Declaring the end [pay attention to what God is saying: "I announce the end"] from the beginning, [from the beginning God is announcing the end]
01:40.6
01:52.3
And from ancient times things which have not been done, Saying, 'My purpose will be established, And I will accomplish all My good pleasure';”
01:52.4
01:55.9
If God says that He announces the end from the beginning,
01:56.0
02:04.9
we need to look at these first 11 chapters and understand that there’s a lot about the Revelation [end times], for example.
02:05.0
02:12.8
It is not for nothing that Jesus gives very important examples of the Book of Genesis that will happen in the future, alright?!
02:12.9
02:20.0
One is in the first 11 chapters, which is the story of Noah. Jesus says that [at the end of time] it will be like in the days of Noah, remember that?
02:20.1
02:25.2
So there [in the Flood] God was talking about the end. And then Jesus says it will be like in the days of Lot...
02:25.3
02:32.3
From chapter 12 to 50 tells the story of Abraham [and his descendants], and you will remember that Lot accompanied Abraham,
02:32.4
02:40.0
and Jesus says: “it was the same as in the days of Lot”, then God is from the beginning.
02:40.1
02:46.3
Now let's go to the biblical overview of Genesis, okay?! I'm going to leave my Bible here so we can start…
02:50.0
03:02.6
Well, the first part [of the study] will be divided like this: “Event”, “Biblical Reference” and “Main ‘Characters’” of the biblical excerpt.
03:02.7
03:12.3
The first event, of course, is the creation of all things. And it is something beautiful because it says: “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”.
03:12.4
03:15.4
Whenever you read the Bible you have to keep this in mind:
03:15.5
03:27.0
When? "At the beginning". What happened? a creation. Who made this? "God!" What did he do? “The heavens and the earth”.
03:27.1
03:33.4
So start to ask questions to the text and you will start to understand a little more about the Bible.
03:33.5
03:40.4
things like: Who was there, what He was doing, what was the purpose, why, where and when. So God opens up your understanding, alright?!
03:40.5
03:46.2
Look, the Creation is in chapters 1 and 2…
03:46.3
03:56.4
I will teach you how to read biblical references: when you have a chapter number followed by a comma [example: 1, 2], it means that it is that first chapter and the chapter 2 as well.
03:56.5
04:00.7
When you have a chapter number followed by a “dash” [example: 3-5],
04:00.8
04:06.2
it means that the reference starts on the first mentioned chapter to the last mentioned chapter, in sequence [so, in the example, the reference includes chapters 3, 4, and 5].
04:06.3
04:12.6
So Creation is in chapters 1 and 2, and Who is the main character? God!
04:12.7
04:25.6
The Father and the Son were there working on the creation, you will see that the next verse says this: "and the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters".
04:25.7
04:34.0
The Spirit of God is also called in the epistles of [Peter] as “Spirit of Christ who was in the prophets”,
04:34.1
04:45.9
that it is the Holy Spirit who was in the prophets, inspiring them, that is, placing the Word of God in the hearts of the prophets so that they would write to us.
04:46.0
05:02.9
So the main character there is God, interesting is that the word "in the beginning created God", the word "God" is "ʼĕlôhîym" [Hebrew], which is a plural word and not a singular word.
05:03.0
05:10.6
Why? Because there was not just a “person” creating, but there was one God creating.
05:10.7
05:15.3
And you will notice this when we study Genesis, chapter 1:
05:15.4
05:24.1
The Father created all things, the Son created all things, all through the Holy Spirit who was hovering over the waters.
05:24.2
05:28.8
Now for the second event: The Fall... The fall of man.
05:28.9
05:36.5
The fall from its original state, from a wonderful state, and then man fell because of sin.
05:36.6
05:46.6
This section will be covered from chapter 3 to chapter 5.
05:46.7
05:56.3
Who are the main characters in this fall? Adam, Eve and the serpent, which is Satan.
05:56.4
06:04.1
The figure of this animal, that we see in Revelation 12 being mentioned as a "great red dragon",
06:04.2
06:11.0
and says that he is nothing more than the ancient serpent, which is the devil and Satan.
06:11.1
06:20.2
So, this devil, Satan, who deceives everyone, in the beginning he was just a snake, just a snake,
06:20.3
06:30.0
but at the end of the story he’s a big red dragon, see what a diabolical transformation, see what an increase in evil power, isn’t it?!
06:30.1
06:38.5
But let's continue... The Flood is the next important event, which appears from chapters 6 to 9.
06:38.6
06:41.9
It would be important for you to make a table like this [in the whiteboard]…
06:42.0
06:51.4
to follow this course I suggest buying a notebook to make notes, every table we create here you copy on your notebook.
06:51.5
06:57.6
This will add you a lot and it will become a good research book for you.
06:57.7
07:06.5
The Flood, in chapters 6 to 9, and main character: Noah.
07:06.6
07:10.4
Noah is the main character in this excerpt.
'
07:10.5
07:23.8
Then we have the next event which is the Tower of Babel, you can find it in chapters 10 and 11. The main character is Nimrod.
07:23.9
07:33.8
Nimrod is the important character in this text here, and when I say “important character” it doesn't mean that the character is good or bad,
07:33.9
07:39.3
it does not mean that he is a good person or a bad person, but that it is important within the context of the subject, alright?!
07:39.4
07:48.9
We have here in the next four biblical passages the Patriarchs, where the Hebrew and Arab peoples originate, alright?!
07:49.0
07:54.0
So here we have Abraham, Isaac, Jacob (Israel) and Joseph.
07:54.1
08:01.3
The main narrative about the Abraham story begins in chapter 12 through chapter 24, okay?!
08:01.4
08:09.9
Chapters 25 and 26 speak of Isaac, very little, only these two more specific chapters on Isaac,
08:10.0
08:12.8
but it stands to reason that there are other chapters that talk about him as well…
08:12.9
08:22.6
From chapters 27 to 36 the main subject is a man named Jacob, that God changed his name to Israel, it is from him that the nation of Israelites arises, alright?!
08:22.7
08:28.2
Later God promised the land that belonged to Canaan.
08:28.3
08:36.6
From chapter 37 to the end of Genesis, which ends in chapter 50, we read the story of the great Joseph.
08:36.7
08:40.7
These are considered Patriarchs. What is “Patriarch”?
08:40.8
08:45.3
They are the heads of families, they are the ones who originate their families.
08:45.4
08:54.2
The word “head of the family”, you will find, for example, in First Chronicles, in chapter 8, verse 28.
08:54.3
09:05.7
The word "householder" is translated from the word "rô’sh" [Hebrew], which means "beginning", "first", "founder", "head"...
09:05.8
09:10.7
And it’s worth remembering that there are many patriarchs of families,
09:10.8
09:21.8
but from the nation of Israel, Peter quotes, in Acts 2:29, David as one of the patriarchs of Israel and this is very important for you to know, alright?!
09:21.9
09:29.2
So here we have an important table only on the biblical panorama
09:29.3
09:36.5
and I'm going to leave a space here for you to pause and make note of this table, ok?!
09:36.6
09:42.4
And one thing that I would like to highlight is that every video we make about a particular chapter,
09:42.5
09:50.2
we will put in the video description that chapter [in its entirety] for you to read, if you haven’t already,
09:50.3
09:57.5
and also some of the verses being cited in the video so that you can make your notes, okay?!
09:57.6
10:00.9
May God bless you and we continue on our next video...
