Description:
Grief is loss and pain and is often referred to as the worst days, weeks, or months of our lives. How we deal with the aftermath of a loss can impact our lives moving forward. There is no question that grief brings us a variety of mixed emotions and sadness, but it does not have to be all gloom and doom. Her talk is about finding hope alongside our grief, by finding joy one day at a time. Her past experiences eventually brought her to this stage. She has personally experienced sexual assault, drug addiction, a failed marriage, single parenthood, suicide loss, sudden death, death of a parent, and a pet loss. Losing her late spouse Barry to suicide was the tip of the iceberg, that changed her life forever. Grief is often like living two lives, one with a mask and one without. We often feel alone in our grief, because no two griefs are ever alike. It is important that we support each other as we navigate through our pain, by showing up and listening up. We will all experience grief sooner or later, and it’s okay to not be okay all the time. Most importantly, there is hope and if you are feeling in the dark, talk about it, please try. Life is short and your life matters. Linda Marshall is a published author, speaker, grief specialist, trainer, and hypnotherapist. She specializes in helping others grow through grief. She loves teaching suicide intervention skills (ASIST) to students, first responders, military, health care workers, teachers, and community members. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Brant Skills Centre. She previously volunteered with the Halifax Regional Police, Victim Services, helping victims of sudden death, sexual assault, and domestic violence. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
