Today, we will tell you what is nephrotic syndrome and how does it spread in the children.

Nephrotic syndrome is a normal kidneys' disease and 90% patients of this disease are children.

In nephrotic syndrome patient loses protein through urine.

When you suffer from nephrotic syndrome then your kidneys' releases a protein named "Albumin" through urine.

Albumin helps your body to get rid of extra fluid.

But when your blood lacks albumin then extra fluid starts accumulating in your body

due to which your body starts to swell. Mostly, the symptoms of this disease can be seen in the last stage.

First is protein in urine, also known as proteinuria.

The main function of the kidneys is to separate waste materials from minerals

but when kidney cannot filter it properly then protein comes out of the body along with the urine.

Second is hypoalbuminemia which means deficiency of albumin (protein) in blood.

When protein comes out of the body through urine then the deficiency of protein in blood occurs.

Third is cholesterol or elevation of fat.

Our cholesterol also increases in this condition

therefore, for the patients of this disease it is kept in mind that their cholesterol doesn't rise.

Last is swelling of the body (edema).

When kidneys cannot filter waste material then it gets accumulated in our blood resulting in swelling in the body.

There is no specific cause of this disease because it happens when kidneys cannot filter the blood properly.

In adults, there are two reasons for this disease.

First is focal segmental glomerulosclerosis and second is diabetes.

In children, the main reason for this disease is minimal change disease.

35% and 65% of this disease occurs in children of age less than 6 and grown up kids respectively without any reason

Food consumed by us puts direct impact to our kidneys.

This is why it is important to follow a good diet chart along with the treatment.

Now we will tell you that what kind of diet a nephrotic syndrome patient should follow.

First, if you are diabetic along with nephrotic syndrome then you should also take a good diet

so that their sugar remains controlled. Patients are advised to consume low-sugar food products.

Second, consume limited amount of calories in order to keep weight and blood pressure under control.

Third, consume balanced amount of carbohydrates and fats because potassium and phosphorus already present in your body

due to which there can come a pressure on your kidneys.

Fourth, consume limited amount of protein because excess protein can cause issues in filtration.

Fifth is sodium which is mainly found in every food product but you have to avoid food items with high amount of sodium in it.

Sixth, patients are advised to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables during nephrotic syndrome

but you should consume all this only on the suggestion of a dietitian.

Lastly patients are advised to drink enough amount of water

which helps in urine generation. Patients should not consume coffee, tea, or alcohol in such condition

as it can damage your kidneys. You can get some test done to identify this disease

such as urine test, blood test, and radiological test.

If you are keeping your weight under control and are making limited use of salt in your food

then it will assist you in controlling blood pressure.

Nephrotic syndrome occurs when there is any malfunctioning in kidneys' filtration.

There can be many reasons behind the occurrence of nephrotic syndrome

such as anemia, heart disease, high blood pressure, and acute kidney injury.
