Noureddine Melikechi Algerian Physicist

Noureddine Melikechi was born in 1958 in Thénia, he left his town for the "Lycee Abane Ramdane" in EL-harrach, Algiers

There he received his Baccalaureate in Mathematics in 1976. He enrolled at the University Houari Boumediene of Sciences and Technology, He went on to pursue graduate work where he worked towards his Masters in 1982 and Doctorate in 1987 at Sussex University

His acheivements: Inventing advanced and small optical fibers which can be used in medical field and dentistry other useful inventions in civil engineering and oceanography; Developing sensitive optical techniques for the early detection of cancers; An advanced camera works with laser

which was used by the NASA to film Mars by planting it in the "curiosity rover"

Awards: SMART Award Capitol Hill Award NASA Group Achievement Award Research Award from The National Institutes of Health Research Award from The Department of Defense Biotechnology Award Award Appreciation Award from the National Federation of Canadian Muslims

on August 6, 2012 the Curiosity Rover landed successfully on the Mars as a part of NASA's mission

Professor Noureddine Melikechi developped through this device a laser filming technique that permits to detect a probable life on the red planet

Dr Melikechi's career is full of succes but he always emphisises that his start was in Algeria

I was grown-up in Algeria and I studied in Algerian schools after that I moved to England to get my PhD in Physics and I came here to the USA where I worked as a member of NASA team

I am working on projects with NASA since 1998

and about the environment and the opportunities that the USA provide to the researchers who come from all over the world, Dr Melikechi says:

the USA give opportunities to the researcher wherever he comes from and he should seize the opportunity... America provides means at the researcher convenience so he can go further

Professor Melikechi, since mid eghties, is working for American research centers and universities which let him came through over than 14 patents

in this laboratory, Dr Melikechi, conducted experiments about one of the most complicated laser utilization in order to prove a probable life on the Mars

Curiosity sends data from the Mars, then we analyze these data to see weather they exist or not, and if they'd existed before or not

Dr Melikechi's studies was expanded to cover whatever could laser contribute to the early diagnose of all types of cancer

We work here to see if someone has a cancer in its early phases, because if someone can diagnose the cancer in its begining he'll be able to be cured in 95% of cases

Dr Melikechi's career is one of the arabic success stories in the USA and he, perhaps, becomes a role model for the ambitious Arab youth, so what message that the professor can send to them?

My message to Arab youth is that they should believe in their capacities, work hard and he knows that the real battle is to give importance to sience and technology and prosperity
