5. Preah Khan Temple
King Jayavarman the seventh built this temple in modern day Angkor, Cambodia in 1191 to honor his father. It was once home to a substantial organization of nearly 100,000 officials and servants.  Hundreds of years ago it was abandoned and everyone forgot about the site until French archaeologists and architects discovered and thoroughly documented the fascinating buildings in the late 1800’s, which by that time had become hidden under an overgrowth of vegetation and roots. Besides minor restoration work the site has been left to be overrun by trees which grow on and around the Preah Khan Temple to this day.  
 
4. The Valley of the Mills 
Located in a crevasse thought to have been formed by a prehistoric volcanic eruption and subsequent earthquake the Valley of the Mills was used by the Italian people from as far back as the 13th century, when they built flour mills on the location. The spot was ideal because a constant stream ran through it. After the success of the flour mills people throughout the years erected more buildings and ran different businesses like a sawmill and a wash house. By the 1940’s the milling of flour had been shifted to nearby pasta mills and the industrial area became obsolete. The brick buildings were closed and abandoned. Aggressive greenery has had their way with the structures in the years since creating a spectacular site in the vein of Shengshan Island. 
 
3. The Floating Forest
Homebush Bay in Sydney, Australia has seen a lot of development since the year 2000, when the nearby Sydney Olympic Park hosted the 2000 Summer Olympic Games. The bay itself is home to a number of abandoned 20th century ships, none more striking than the S.S. Ayrfield. Locals call it the Floating Forest thanks to the lush flora that has enveloped the rusting hull, and surrounded nearly the whole ship. The S.S. Ayrfield was used years ago to transport supplies to American troops that were stationed in the Pacific Ocean. It was retired in the Bay all the way back in 1972 to be dismantled. That never got done and the ship was simply left floating in the water to decay and, as it turns out slowly be overtaken by mother nature. 
 
2. Belgian Car Graveyard 
Traffic jams can last for hours, sometimes the worst can even persist for days on end. There is a traffic jam of sorts lying in a Belgian forest that hasn’t moved for seventy years. So how did all of these rusting hunks of metal end up gathered in such a natural setting? The prevailing theory is that U.S. soldiers stationed in a nearby village bought the cars. When the war ended and everyone was shipped home, they couldn’t afford to ship the cars, so they hid them in the forest. Apparently not many of them were able to get their cars home so they sat, slowly being overrun by nature. Soldiers stationed in the area have added to what has become a metal cemetery in the years since.

1. Pripyat Amusement Park
Not only is this amusement park in Ukraine abandoned but so is the entire town surrounding it. The Soviet Union built Pripyat to serve the nearby Chernobyl Power Plant in 1970. The city grew to a population of around 50 thousand by 1986. Then on April 26 of that year one of the power plants nuclear reactors exploded, releasing massive amounts of radiation into the atmosphere. In the span of just a few days Pripyat became a ghost town. Incredibly, the Pripyat Amusement park was set to be open just a week after the disaster occurred. As fate would have it a place that was supposed to be full of joy and children screaming with delight instead became a dangerous abandoned area which to this day contains traces of radiation. Its ferris wheel is often featured in photographs of the city.
