The aim of our team selection is to have pace. We want to get behind the attacking full backs of Barcelona. We also want to have pace in the middle of the park to be able to try and break.

The aim is for us to create a solid defensive shape with formation 4-1-4-1. The two wide players are vital and they have to get behind the Barcelona full backs.

In this system we have two 'anchor points'. The lone forward needs to be receiving the ball in front of the defensive line and feed the on rushing BBM and two attacking minded wingers. The DLP should be a player pinging in the precise long balls either for the striker or the two wide men.

I think that this is easily the biggest tactical failure that I have done in Football Manager. We didn't hold solid at all in this game and conceded really early on. I think this was a mixture of errors that I have made and also I need to give some blame especially for our wide players. We just didn't provide any attacking threat and from early on it was quite easily noticeable that we didn't make things tight enough for Barcelona when they attacked. We lacked the penetration totally and had basically no clue on our play on this game. Fair play to Barcelona, one of the best performances I have seen from the AI.
