Nipple twiddling usually happens with toddlers six months and older. It's when your child plays with the opposite nipple/breast while breastfeeding. It becomes a problem when you are nursing in public and they want to take off your nursing cover and do the nipple twiddling.

Once your child starts to smile, do gestures and become more sociable, they also become intrigued by their surroundings. And one that they can easily do is to touch the other breast or nipple.

Twiddling can happen in different styles. They can twiddle with your hair, their belly button and do that as their comfort.  Some moms find it annoying but others are okay with it.

One thing you can do to prevent it is to establish nursing manners. It can start from a young age so they can learn to do things right. You can incorporate gestures to teach them what is right or wrong and divert their attention to something else.

These things take time to establish so very important to be patient. Babies can't learn this overnight. The important thing is you see this as a completely normal thing and both a learning process for you and the baby.
