Now you can also do it in Blender without the help of addons.

EXTRA INFO:
You need to adjust the values / keyframes if you add longer text. 
Multiple lines of text / text files are not supported directly / I couldn't figure a good workflow for it.
You can always duplicate the object and make the geo node tree a single copy and change the text.

If you use the stroke method, the results can vary a lot with the font you use.
The stroke can be uneven at some parts if you use blocky fonts. 
I suggest using rounded fonts if you make the text big / 3D.

You can also add a Group input node and hook the position or length there instead of value node so you can control the effect in the Modifiers panel!
