These guiding coalitions are passionate, solution-oriented teams known for their ability to transform “why we can't” into “how we can”.

Here's a quick update on our work.

Last fall we launched two guiding coalitions focused on meeting the needs of our special education students and English Language Learners.

Not only have these two incredible teams been busy improving our system for students...

...we’ve also launched a third guiding coalition focused on meeting the needs of our gifted and talented students.

Each guiding coalition has targeted and measurable improvement goals and is in the midst of carrying out specific action plans to ensure each goal is met.

For example, since we know the greatest impact on student success is quality teaching...

...our Special Education and ELL Guiding Coalitions are working to support teachers with quality professional learning.

The Special Education Guiding Coalition created a series of professional learning resources showcasing outstanding Klein teachers in action using best practices for meeting the needs of students with learning disabilities, autism, and behavioral challenges.

Our ELL Guiding Coalition developed a series of professional learning opportunities aligned to the annual goals and a repository of high-yield strategies to guide differentiation in the curriculum.

They're also helping campuses set up their own ELL Action Teams targeting specific ELL needs.

Our GT Guiding Coalition got to work in January, responding to feedback gathered in late 2016 via a GT Parent survey and visits with GT teachers and students.

This team is already at work implementing campus support plans for the remainder of this school year and redesigning GT services for next school year, while creating a variety of GT Research Pathways, giving students meaningful and personalized options beyond the traditional research project, also known as TPSP.
