Title:
Description:
In sclerosis of mastoid, we have loss of air cells, which is proper ventilation of the mastoid and this is just an isolated finding in most of the cases. It is a finding which we see when we do a radiological examination of the temporal bone, either an x-ray or a CT scan. When this finding is seen, we never take it as an isolation. The other findings such as fluid behind the drum or a perforation or a hole in the drum or loss of oscicles or any destruction of the small bones of the body of the ear or the hearing mechanism, all these are investigated further and only then a proper management protocol is reached and isolated mastoid sclerosis is never a problem to be dealt with. It has to be dealt with only with other symptoms. So if you have a finding, it suggests that you have mastoid sclerosis without any other problem. Ofcourse it is imperative that you see your ENT doctor or ENT surgeon, most preferably an otologist as soon as possible and he or she will explain to you that in an isolation it is not a problem but ofcourse all the other investigations has to be done and it will be properly managed by that particular doctor.
