Description:
Right now, I am experiencing rapid cycling bipolar disorder. I’m maneuvering my way through a pattern of depressive and hypomanic episodes. In this video, I define what rapid cycling is and what rapid cycling looks like for me. In my experience living with bipolar 2 disorder, every 4-7 years I experience rapid cycling for an extended period. It is a mix of both depressive and hypomanic episodes. The medications I take to treat my bipolar disorder decrease the severity of these episodes, however, they do not reduce the length of time I am cycling. A majority of the time, I am borderline hypomanic and trying to make sure I maintain control plus dealing with the long nights. It’s exhausting. I do not punish myself or overanalyze these episodes because my bipolar medication handles the most critical problem with rapid cycling, which is the severity of these frequent episodes. It is my responsibility to make sure that I am staying in-between the lines. This is my life with bipolar 2 disorder, and these episodes will occur throughout the rest of my life. I am not naive to the fact that in the future, when more stress comes about, there will be periods of rapid cycling that are very severe. I will cross that bridge as I approach it. I have accepted this and carry a good attitude through the episodes that leave me feeling happy and at the same time empty. What about you? Do you experience rapid cycling bipolar disorder? What does rapid cycling look like to you and how do you deal with it? Comment below or send a response video to info@healthyplace.com. I’m looking forward to hearing from you.
