You can prepare it at home for special occasions and on festive days. It has the delicious flavours of jaggery, spices and tamarind. The combination of ingredients makes it the most loved staple food in South Indian kitchens. Now try this recipe out as it is simple. Ingredients Tamarind pulp Turmeric powder Fenugreek seeds Jaggery Green chili Grated ginger Mustard seeds Cumin seeds Dry red chili Small chana dal Urad dal Curry leaves Asafoetida powder (Inguva) Fried cashew nuts Fried Peanuts Preparation steps Take the tamarind pulp in a pan. Add salt, turmeric powder, jaggery, fenugreek seeds, chopped green chili, grated ginger. Stir the mixture until it turns into paste like consistency and place it aside. Cook 1 cup of rice with 2 cups of water. Then add turmeric, salt and oil to the cooked rice. Toss it well to mix the ingredients. Add tamarind paste to the rice and mix it thoroughly. Keep it aside. Heat oil and add urad dal, chana dal, mustard seeds, cumin seeds and dry red chili. Tamper the spices for 1 minute. Add a few fresh curry leaves and asafoetida powder.
