Maps, charts or plans

Typically A4 or smaller and flat,or larger than A4 and folded, stored with other materials or documents

Maps in file that are not folded must be kept unfolded when prepared for transfer

Maps in files stored folded must be kept folded when preparing for transfer

Endorsing the map: using a HB pencil, write the TNA reference twice, in opposite corners on the reverse of the map

Refold the map

Choose an acid-free envelope that is large enough for the map plus space for the punch hole

Sufficient space to remove the map from the envelope without needing to remove the envelope from the folder

Endorsing the envelope: using a HB pencil write the TNA reference on the front of the envelope

the envelope can be tagged into the file, and the map easily removed from it ...

without removing the envelope from the file
