We are representing the secondary school Sri Kuala Lumpur.

This is our invention pitch video.

I am Zhao He, General Affairs.

I am Jia Sheng, Secretary.

I am Jonathan, the Treasurer.

I am Ryan, the Lead Researcher.

And I'm Wei Lun, the Leader of Team Steady Tready.

Firstly, our main goal is to promote good sanitation

in dystopian third-world countries

as bad hygiene plays a big role in

increase of child mortality rates as of recent.

Our second goal is to encourage responsible consumption and production.

We hope to do this, as our soap making kit

makes use of waste, oils and ashes

that they already have from their daily activites.

This not only benefits them, as they'll be able to clean themselves better,

but this also benefits the environment,

as no harmful toxins or gases are released into the atmosphere.

In 2016, over 900000 people died from lower respiratory disease in Africa,

which is almost a third of all the deaths that year.

This number could be lowered greatly, if they had exercised better hygiene

ie, using our soap to kill various viruses and fungi

that cause these diseases that live on their hands.

This is related to one of the goals we are trying to accomplish,

which is good health and well-being.

The scientific principle in play here is seponification,

which is the process of tryglycerides, oils,

reacting with sodium hydroxide to form fatty acid salts

otherwise known as soap. This process is in no way

harmful to the environment, as long as the products created

during the process are disposed of responsibly,

therefore making it very safe to use.

The scientific principle is that our soap is able to kill the viruses

by ripping open the lipid area that surrounds the RNA inside

making the viruses useless and unable to reproduce.

This is the prototype for our invention, the Box O' Soap.

Note that it's made out of aluminium as we do not have access to plastic manafacturing.

The Box O' Soap contains 3 marked cups with easy to understand graphics

that help the user understand what material is required.

A manual, with instructions written in 12 different languages

and easily understood pictures.

A silicone mold to help shape the soaps.

And a ladle to mix the ingredients.

This box would also be able to act as a heating pot.

This is the Box O' Soap soap making manual,

as you can see every page shows a step,

and every page has a diagram that

enable people who cannot read to be able to

understand the steps as to make the soap

every page has 12 different languages

and these languages are languages that are usually spoken

in countries where the Box O' Soap will make a huge impact in.

Now, let us go through the process of making the soap itself.

Firstly, combine 2 cups of water and 2 cups of wood ash.

Boil the mixture until it is saturated.

Do not inhale the fumes. Filter the mixture with

a cloth or a piece of filter paper.

Measure out 15 cups of oil and heat it up for around 20 minutes.

Slowly add the mixture to the oil,

stirring constantly with the mixing tool provided.

Once the mixture is well incorporated, the mixture is then

placed into the molds and covered in plastic wraps

where it is kept to dry.

Wait 6 weeks or so for it to harden.

Unfortunately, only one of our soaps came out usable

as we made the mistake of leaving the soap to harden outdoors.

we have concluded from this that the soap should be hardened

indoors as so not to be exposed to the sun which could disrupt the hardening process.

But in the end, it still worked

and we managed to make soap that could clean up our dirty hands.

What makes our product different from the rest?

Most commercial soap making kits nowadays focus too much

on aesthetics and comfort. We want our soap making kit

to be practical and useful in everyday situations.

So, that is why our soap making kit

is low of cost, and can be used at a very low maintenance.

This way, everybody can lives their lives in sanitation

without worry of not being clean enough to live another day.
