Year only dates can be entered into spreadsheets without encountering any problems,
00:04.9
00:07.9
as shown for piece number 52.
00:09.1
00:13.4
However, when I try to enter a month/year date,
00:13.5
00:18.3
spreadsheet software such as Excel converts the date to a text format.
00:18.4
00:25.3
This can be seen here when I enter the First date and Last dates for piece number 53.
00:26.1
00:29.1
To prevent this automatic reformatting,
00:29.2
00:34.0
the format of the cells needs to be amended before entering the data.
00:34.1
00:39.0
There are many ways to do this; here are two ways in Excel.
00:40.0
00:46.0
Select the cell and choose the Number format drop down list in the Home ribbon,
00:46.1
00:47.4
and select Text.
00:51.8
00:56.1
Select the cell and right click the mouse in that cell.
00:56.2
01:02.8
Select Format cells and on the Number tab, select Text, then select OK.
01:10.3
01:13.3
You can see the format of the date is now retained.
01:13.4
01:18.2
If you are using another spreadsheet software, the method will be similar.
