Description:
Rosenblatt Distinguished Fellow Moshe "Bogie" Yaalon, the former Israeli defense minister, sat down with Executive Director Robert Satloff to discuss the challenges facing Israeli national security as well as the dynamics shaping the U.S.-Israel relationship. This forum was recorded on September 15, 2016. Moshe Yaalon resigned in May as Israel's defense minister, the latest in a long list of military and security positions he has held in his public service. In uniform, he rose through the ranks of the Israel Defense Forces, serving as head of the Sayeret Matkal commando unit, the Paratroopers Brigade, Military Intelligence, and Central Command, ending his service as the IDF's seventeenth chief of staff. And since 2009, he has served in the Israeli government, joining the Likud Party and entering the Knesset and cabinet, where his posts included minister of defense, minister of strategic affairs, and vice prime minister. In September 2016 he joined the Institute as its inaugural Rosenblatt Distinguished Fellow.
