Often, kidney patients are confused about what to eat and what not to eat. Most of the time they cannot eat their favourite foods due to the condition that they are in. Generally, they are not advised to eat snacks due to their high salt and mineral content that puts excess pressure on the ailing kidneys for filtration.

However, this does not mean that they cannot consume any kind of snacks. The ones that have low amounts of potassium or sodium can be consumed by renal patients. Let’s discuss such snacks for kidney patients in detail.

Makhana
Makhana, or fox nuts are really a healthy option to be included in a diet for kidney patients. These fall under the category of dry fruits but contain less amounts of phosphorus and potassium.

Chivda 
Also known as Poha or beaten rice, this snack can be prepared without adding salt to it as its use could lead to high blood pressure problems. Further, it must be prepared in aluminium or iron containers in less oil as it will benefit kidney disease patients.

Black tea
When it comes to beverages, black tea should be consumed along with snacks. Also, kidney patients can make use of double toned milk but it should also be consumed in a limited amount only.

Fruits 
In addition to snacks, you may also consume some fruits that do not have high sugar level content. This may include guava, cranberry, apples, and pineapples. Do not consume citrus fruits as it increases the metabolic acidosis in the body.
If you like to eat south indian dishes, you may opt for Rava Idli or Rava Dosa that should be made with minimal salt and oil. You may consume popcorn that is air dried and doesn't have any oil or sodium content in it.
