Before I share the dark story of Peter Pan...
00:49.4
00:52.4
let's recall first the Disney version of it.
00:52.5
00:59.9
The story began with the three siblings who lives in London: Wendy, Michael and John Darling.
01:00.0
01:03.6
One night, when their parents left for a party,
01:03.7
01:09.0
they were visited by Peter Pan, a kid who can fly and never grows old.
01:09.1
01:14.3
Peter Pan had convinced them to come to the place called the Neverland
01:14.4
01:18.7
where there lived several young boys who were known as The Lost Kids
01:18.8
01:20.9
and the main antagonist of the story, Captain Hook.
01:21.0
01:23.0
At first, the three siblings were happy.
01:23.1
01:27.0
But after they fought with the mermaids and got caught by Indians,
01:27.1
01:31.5
they suddenly missed their parents and they wished to go home.
01:31.6
01:36.5
Before they finally come home, Captain Hook planned of throwing them at the sea
01:36.6
01:40.8
and to bomb Peter's home. But with Tinkerbell's help,
01:40.9
01:45.9
Captain Hook's plan failed and Peter Pan had saved the Darling siblings.
01:46.0
01:53.1
The fairies helped to fly Captain Hook's ship to safely bring the siblings back to their parents.
01:53.2
01:57.6
However, in the book that we'll discuss, you'll notice the big difference
01:57.7
02:02.4
and surely, you'll be shocked with Peter Pan's real side of his character.
02:02.5
02:09.6
This book was formerly a stage play in 1904 entitled "The Boy Who Would Never Grow Up"
02:09.7
02:11.7
written by J.M. Barrie. (Mr. James Matthew Barrie)
02:11.8
02:14.9
And this is how the story started...
02:15.3
02:21.8
The story in the book also began by introducing Wendy's character and her siblings.
02:21.9
02:27.2
These siblings always hear bedtime stories from their mother.
02:27.3
02:30.3
Meanwhile, Peter Pan was secretly eavesdropping, also listening to the story.
02:30.4
02:38.9
Peter had a chance to talk to Wendy and learned that she knows a lot of bedtime stories.
02:39.0
02:47.6
Peter thought that because Wendy knows a lot of stories, perhaps she could become the mother of the lost boys.
02:47.7
02:52.5
Wendy accepted Peter's invitation and they also brought her two siblings.
02:52.6
02:58.1
After Wendy agreed, Peter Pan immediately flew them to Neverland.
02:58.2
03:05.9
They had a long journey and Wendy found it obnoxious that Peter is so forgetful.
03:06.0
03:13.0
There were moments in their journey that Peter will suddenly forgets like he doesn't know them at all
03:13.1
03:19.4
that they to introduce themselves again and again and Wendy was annoyed by it.
03:19.5
03:24.9
And when they reached the island of Neverland, the lost boy welcomed Wendy in an unpleasant way.
03:25.0
03:30.8
But they immediately cope up for their wrongdoings and made a home they called "The Wendy's House".
03:30.9
03:37.0
While Wendy was resting, her siblings felt at home and happily interacted with the lost boys.
03:37.1
03:41.5
Peter brought Wendy to his and the lost boy's home.
03:41.6
03:45.6
Wendy immediately did her role of being a mother to the lost boys.
03:45.7
03:50.5
The Darling siblings joined Peter to a lot of adventures.
03:50.6
03:56.0
And while they were with Peter, they discovered a lot of scary things about him.
03:56.1
04:02.8
One of it was when Peter told them that the Lost Boys were kids who got lost from their parents
04:02.9
04:07.4
in a public park in London called as Kensington Gardens.
04:07.5
04:12.3
If we're going to think about it, perhaps Peter Pan reached out to these kids like
04:12.4
04:15.2
how he persuaded Wendy and her siblings.
04:15.3
04:19.5
Peter said that they convinced them to come to a Magical world
04:19.6
04:23.5
where they can do whatever they want without someone prohibiting them.
04:23.6
04:26.4
Here's where this story gets odd...
04:26.5
04:35.4
If we are to analyze Peter's character in this book, we can say that he is a child predator targetting innocent kids.
04:35.5
04:42.2
It was mentioned in the book that he killed some kids from the lost boys so they won't increase in number.
04:42.3
04:50.8
It was also mentioned that when Peter notices that some of the lost boys were growing old, he'll kill them.
04:50.9
04:54.0
The question is, you were supposed to stop aging at Neverland, right?
04:54.1
05:00.7
The answer stated in the book: there were some who came to Neverland that got unlucky and didn't stop growing up.
05:00.8
05:08.4
Another weird thing in this book is when some of the lost boys grew taller, Peter cuts some body parts
05:08.5
05:11.7
just so they could still fit in the tree house which was their hideout.
05:11.8
05:19.0
Sometimes, he just feeds them anything because he doesn't know what's proper to eat.
05:19.1
05:23.9
The real Peter Pan can't play the role of a parent to them.
05:24.0
05:27.2
The next scene in the book is similar to the film.
05:27.3
05:31.8
The mermaids in their lagoon hates Wendy and the other kids,
05:31.9
05:36.4
and Captain Hook kidnapped the Indian's daughter named Tiger Lily.
05:36.5
05:40.8
Captain Hook wanted to know where was Peter Pan's hideout,
05:40.9
05:43.5
but Tiger Lily chose not to answer him.
05:43.6
05:48.2
Captain Hook planned to drop her at the sea but Peter had saved her.
05:48.3
05:52.4
In the next scene, Peter Pan and Captain Hook finally fought each other.
05:52.5
05:59.3
Captain Hook managed to wound up Peter but Peter still succeeded in saving Tiger Lily and they got back to their camp.
05:59.4
06:02.8
He was called a Hero by everyone and as a gift of gratitude from the Indians,
06:02.9
06:06.5
they offered to guard Peter Pan's hideout.
06:06.6
06:09.9
At this point, Wendy was falling in love with Peter.
06:10.0
06:14.0
However, when Wendy asked Peter Pan about how he thinks of her,
06:14.1
06:20.0
he answered that he only sees Wendy as a mother and nothing more.
06:20.1
06:25.1
Because of this, Wendy remembered her parents and thought that they must be
06:25.2
06:29.4
very worried as the Darling siblings were lost for several days already.
06:29.5
06:33.2
Because of it, Wendy thought that they had to go home
06:33.3
06:37.2
and she wanted to invite the lost boys to come with them.
06:37.3
06:41.0
Everyone agreed besides Peter Pan.
06:41.1
06:46.7
Even so, they have finally decided to leave.
06:46.8
06:52.2
Unfortunately, before they had left, they were kidnapped by the pirates.
06:52.3
06:58.0
And when Peter knew what happened, he immediately saved the Darling siblings and The Lost Boys.
06:58.1
07:02.7
They had an extreme fight but Peter's group still won.
07:02.8
07:08.1
Meanwhile, Captain Hook was killed after Peter had pushed him to a huge crocodile.
07:08.2
07:14.2
The fairies helped to fly the ship and they used it to travel back to London.
07:14.3
07:22.0
Peter still won't let go of Wendy so he decided to fly fast to get to Wendy's home first.
07:22.1
07:29.2
Peter thought of putting wood logs at the window so Wendy would think that they weren't awaited by their parents.
07:29.3
07:34.8
But while Peter was doing it, he saw how sad Wendy's parents
07:34.9
07:39.4
for they've been lost for so long and they were missing their kids.
07:39.5
07:44.0
Because of this, Peter decided to stop his plans.
07:44.1
07:50.6
The ending was happy. The Darling family were joyful again together with adopting the lost boys.
07:50.7
07:54.8
Peter still don't want to grow up so he chose to stay at Neverland.
07:54.9
08:00.4
He had a deal with Wendy to visit them every spring, however,
08:00.5
08:06.7
Peter had no idea about seasons. So after Wendy's visit to neverland,
08:06.8
08:10.4
Peter Pan had totally forgot about them for 25 years.
08:10.5
08:13.5
When Peter visited Wendy again, she had already grown and was an adult.
08:13.6
08:21.2
So he had another deal with her, once every year, he has to be visited by Jane, Wendy's daughter.
08:21.3
08:27.1
And when Jane grew old and had a daughter named Margareth, she'll be the one to visit Peter.
08:27.2
08:29.8
That's where Peter Pan's story ends...
08:29.9
08:32.3
But we're still not done with this.
08:32.4
08:37.7
Let's discuss J.M. Barrie's inspiration in writing the book.
08:37.8
08:43.2
In his addiction of youth, which was believed to begin in 1867.
08:43.3
08:50.1
When he was only 6 years old, his sibling named David died 2 days before he turns 14.
08:50.2
08:53.6
David was their mother's favorite from the 8 siblings.
08:53.7
08:59.7
And their mother believes that her late son will remain as an innocent child forever.
08:59.8
09:04.2
And here's how Barrie's amusement of young boys began.
09:04.3
09:09.9
After 30 years, in 1898, while J.M. Barrie was at Kensington Gardens
09:10.0
09:19.5
he met George and John Davies, a 4 and 5 year old kids walking at the park with their nannies.
09:19.6
09:23.4
They got close and J.M. even got to know the kids' parents
09:23.5
09:27.2
and their other siblings: Peter, Michael, and Nicholas.
09:27.3
09:33.3
He got super close to the family that the kids call him Uncle J.M.
09:33.4
09:36.9
According to researchers, they found a note from James
09:37.0
09:39.3
that he gave to Michael in his birthday.
09:39.4
09:42.7
Michael was JM's favorite among the Davies siblings.
09:42.8
09:50.0
According to the letter, JM stated that he likes Michael and he must never tell it to anyone.
09:50.1
09:55.4
And these type of letters is inappropriate for an 8-year old kid.
09:55.5
10:02.1
The parents of the siblings died in a diseases so he adopted the kids and raised them.
10:02.2
10:06.8
A lot of accusations were pointed at JM because of his life events.
10:06.9
10:13.0
But we weren't sure about his real intentions and fixations towards innocent kids.
10:13.1
10:18.8
Despite all of this, he did a great deed before he died in 1937.
10:18.9
10:24.0
He left all the copyrights of his Peter Pan works in a children's hospital in London.
10:24.1
10:27.7
Up to the present, the hospital still benefits from this copyright ownership.
10:27.8
10:30.2
So, here's where this video ends.
10:30.3
