“Humahataw sa kagandahan, Mahatao Island.” Is how my sister summed up our overnight camping trip. And she’s right. We booked Mahatao Island at the last minute, after my sister forgot to schedule our camping trip. To our surprise, Lumot Lake and its many hidden gems, did not disappoint. We were lucky to have have stumbled upon such an amazing hideaway. I was surprised when I learned we had to take a 10min boat ride to get to the campground. We had to shed a lot of our gear, I almost backed out. Thank God I pushed through with it.

After a couple of vloggers visited Marina Iwarat's island in September of 2019, they urged her to open up her haven for visitors who were looking for place to relax and have a good time. Opening up her doors also meant to bring a source of income to her property. She named her resort Mahatao after her childhood town, so she never forgets where she came from. Mahatao Island offers visitors activities such as swimming, fishing, kayaking, Calamansi picking. I never knew Calamansi trees smelled incredible.

In this video I also tried to make a Philly Cheesesteak. Other than making stuff on my air fryer, I rarely cook that’s why making a Philly Cheesesteak in front of the camera proved to be a challenging. I also couldn’t find proper buns and Rib Eye steak for the video but I tried my best to pick out alternatives.

Mahatao Island is a place I would absolutely love to come back to. A hidden getaway, where you can feel cut off from the rest of the world. Where time just stops and you can take a break. A moment’s peace amidst these challenging times. A place where you can put your feet up, reflect, recharge and forget about whatever stress is going on in your life. You can find solace here.
